I'm running VMWare on a Windows 2000 Box (Celeron 520, 256MB RAM, GF2 MX, 30GB Quantum LM). I installed Slackware 7.1 onto a VMWare Virtual Machine and am using GNOME. Now, I've used Slackware a lot before. But I've never used GNOME. When I'm in GNOME, it seems a bit sluggish (like I'm using a Pentium instead of a P6 class CPU). Is this because of GNOME itself, or is this because of the virtual machine? Has anybody tested an installation in both a virtual machine and a real machine and compared the performance? I'd like to know just how much slower this Slackware installation is on a VM than it would be on a real machine. Thanks in advance.
