I just received my VNF3-250, a A64 3000+, 2x512mb Geil PC3200, 80gb WD SATA and a new 420w Purepower powersupply.(I also got a DVD Burner that had to be RMA'ed drive door stuck)
Ran fine the first day after getting the whole SATA boot thing worked out. Loaded up Doom 3 and played it an average 40fps, no problems.
I was pretty happy... then I noticed my RAM was running slower timings than the ram was rated for. It was supposed to be 2.5-3-3-6 2T and it was running 2.5-4-4-8 2T. So I go in to the bios and set the RAM to the appropriate latencies (2.5-3-3-6 2T) and then reboot.
It did nothing. Just gave me a grey screen but the hard drive would make a bit of noise and the CPU fan would be on. So I reset the CMOS with the red jumper. Still nothing. So I put 1x256mb Corsair XMS PC3200LL ram in there since its rated at 2-2-2-6 1T. Nothing. So I went to sleep woke up this morning and plugged the power cord back in and to my surprise the post screen popped up and let me know the CMOS was reset to defaults. But it then froze up immediately.
Following that it booted to the post screen a few more times but only after I unplugged the power cord and cleared the CMOS. But it would only get as far as determining the amount of ram or once it got to detecting IDE Drives, but both times it would show graphical glitches. (ie little lines would be missing from the letters and numbers or they'd be in weird places they shouldn't be) It just freezes and that's about it.
After all that I am very disappointed. I have no idea what the problem is. The RAM latencies should be auto on the board and I have tried using different RAM with no avail.
Any ideas what it might be at this point?
