$49.99 in the Midwest. I'm going for it-beats the hell out of my 1300 min free nights and weekends from Cingular for a mere $99.99/mo.

Any comments on Voicestream.

$49.99 here in Dallas. The problem is that GSM has no analog backup, so if you leave a major city, your in trouble. AT&T and Cingular are both converting to GSM though, so nationwide GSM coverage should only improve.

I'm in rural Minnesota and it's pretty good. There are areas that I service that don't have coverage, but that's the same with any cell carrier out here. 90% of the area I'm in has good coverage.

I actually found out about this a couple days ago and called them to switch on the road earlier today.

I was on Get More Plus which has 800 anytime and unlimited weekend, but since I used 910 non-weekend minutes last month, this is a much better deal. Esp considering it's the exact same price. I never leave the 5 state area, so this is the way to go for me. I wish they had it when I signed up a couple months ago. My last bill was $120 just because of those few minutes I was over. I didn't use much for weekend minutes and on the weekends I'm usually with my wife who also has voicestream and her usage is opposite. Shes on the Get More for $39 and gets 400 anytime and unlimited weekends. So, essentially I have 3000 weekday and unlimited weekend now.

Great coverage down here in Florida on voicestream....

Im a little confused though, does this mean i only get long distance calls in this area? or anywhere in this area i can make free long distance calls to anywhere around the country?

<< Doh! There is no service in NC?!?! Anyone else in NC confirm this? >>

Thats weird... I would call them up and ask... According to their website, they have towers there, but it dosent look like you can purchase service if you live there...

I use Voicestream in the Chicago area. I'm using it with the Visorphone (free) that I have for my Handspring Visor Deluxe. I drove to Michigan during Christmas and never lost the signal. Pretty decent. Their 3000 minute plan is excellent for those using lots of minutes. I don't use the 60/500 that I have now.

You only receive free long distance inside that calling area.

VoiceStream does not have towers in NC. You would roam on the former BellSouth GSM network, which is now Cingular.

How is VoiceStream coverage in NJ and eastern PA? Anybody has problems with it? Also can you return the phone and cancel contract if you find that the the signal strength is sub-par?

I just got Voicestream in GA in January. For what it's worth, their customer service seems to be excellent. The couple times I have spoken with them on the phone have been great. During the first month, they even called the cell phone to ask how we liked the service. Then gave me 25 minutes just for answering and talking to them. Today, I e-mailed customer service about a charge on my bill. I had an e-mail back in less than an hour with the answer. Also, you can get better deals on phones on their website.

Seems like a great deal. Has anyone ever used Voicestream in the Boston area before? If so, how was it?

Are there any plans out there that do not require a service commitment? I can see agreeing to a 12 month agreement if
the provider is giving me a phone for free or very cheap, but it seems like every plan nowdays requires a commitment even if
you are the one paying for the phone.

General question about cell phone agreements here. Do the agreements typically come with a provision to get out
of them within the first week or two without a penalty? I am thinking of the situation where the coverage turns out to
be poor where you would normally use the phone.

If the plan does not come with this provision, will the provider generally add it if you ask?

Good coverage within the greater boston area.. I've heard if you travel on certain sections of Rt. 2, you would loose signal. Hmm... or is that SprintPCS? Anyway... been using VS since Sept, and no regrets (switched from Sprint). I only wish they have plans similar to Sprint - free LD, free Nights/weekend... not just free weekends (fri midnight - Sun mid-nite).

From the plan details: "Incoming and outgoing calls are rounded up and billed in
full minute increments from the time the network begins to process the call (before
the call rings or is answered) through its termination of the call."

It sounds like Voicestream will deduct from your minutes even if the person you
call does not answer or you do not answer the incoming call. Is this standard
procedure for cell phone carriers?

RE: Voicestream SE service - Atlanta pretty good, Roams in NC mostly on Cingular GSM so this plan does not include NC. No service in Ft. Myers FL . Its too bad they don't have an analog roaming option ( albeit pricey) like the other big providers .

voicesteam is pretty good i like the aim feature and extras. beats sprints service - i hate the rep's at sprint you never ever get a good response on time you have to hold for hours for service.
