Can anybody tell me if there is a big difference between WRT54G ver 4 vs WRT54GS ver. 4. I know that people are saying to stay away from WRT54G v5. From these two, which one should I get for my SunRocket? I am planning to use a third party firmware so that i can get QOS. Thank you.

Hi Georgepa,

You said "For instance, faxing works well with SR most of the time, but sometimes it does not work well right off the bat, so I have to go inside the gizmo settings to make the appropriate changes, and, presto. I learned most of what I know from reading on sites like this one and by communicating via email and PMs with some of the other SR tweakers."

I have SR for about 2 weeks now - works great, except faxing. I have been able to send and receive faxes intermittently.

I'm using an HP D135 multifunction machine. I have 2 VOIP lines - 1 Optimum Voice (which faxes fine) and 1 SR. SR upgraded to newest firmware.

Any clues about: 1. Where to find more info, and 2. Any suggestions on settings?

Thanks,

Cary

Broertje-

The "S" is a speed booster. Otherwise the two routers are identical. You could choose either, just a matter of higher price vs. what you get extra with the speed boost. Good choice, btw.

I've had sunrocket for a little over a year now. I tried renewing my account by replying to the email I got about a month ago, which basically said to reply to the email or call in to renew the account. Never heard anything back. Then I got an email about 2 weeks ago directing me to a website where I filled out a form to renew my account. I never heard anything back from SR. I finally decided to call in last night to confirm that I had been put on the annual plan with a free 13th month (the deal given via email), and the CSR said that there was no record of me trying to renew my account.

Anyone else have their attempts to renew via email and the web fail?

Yeah, yeah, I know.

Still doesn't fix it when a legacy fax caller calls on your original line. This is really about just picking up the faxes taht come in to your normal line. Of course you can do something different about new fax stuff.

Well, my forwarding is down once again. This time, the "do not forward, Gizmo reset " procedure didn't work. SR may be inexpensive, but it is very trouble prone and their customer service and tech service are the absolute worst. God help you if you call the 800 number and have to deal with the idiots in Bangalore that offer no help whatsoever.

I think that all you have to do is say your gizmo is slowing down your downloads. everyone at the help line seems to know about it. One guy on the Philippines help line said that Innomedia came over and trained them on the new Gizmo. so it sounds like they might be switching to this model.

tomtrike

Philippine folks getting trained on them? Thats good to hear. Thanx for the info...

Your post should come with the caveat "for me" as in "SR may be inexpensive, but it is very trouble prone...in my case." As you can see in this thread, nobody else has your issue. That does not make it less real for you, but the point is that your issue is CLEC related and has to be taken care of at the local level. It is not a national issue that has befallen anyone else here, and looking at other forums it has not been an issue outside a very few. Sorry you are having that particular issue, but it certainly does not mean that the service is "trouble prone" on a general level if your local CLEC screws up the way they have.

Yes, me.
And I'm not very happy with where things stand, either.
They promise to answer questions, and just drop the issue on the several occasions I've querried them, and they promised to get right back to me.
They also refused to allow any reward points to be used toward this year's renewal...:thumbsdown:

Edited: Changed, "the reward points" to "any reward points", because I only have a total accumulation of 120 for the year, not enough to cover the whole $199.

Can anyone comment on these new phones you get for free. Do they have an answering machine built in? or do you have to have an external additional answering machine. The reason I'm asking is I want to give it to inlaws (they have some ugly old one) because I already have the 5.8ghz phones. They have a regular house phone line and would need an answering machine. If these phones do not have an aswering machine, I won't even bother opening the package and just EBAY them as brand new!

Thank you for your answers in advance!

I continue testing the SR -- still a little skiddish about giving up my Verizon. Wife recently asked her family how it sounded on the other side of the phone.

They indicated a few times that when she called, and they answered -- they would say hello a few times before she actually heard them.... at this point, not sure if this is a big issue or not, as it hasn't happened on other calls.

Anyone else with this issue -- possible resolution?

Hrm. I've never had that happen, at least not with normal long distance. When calling my father in Russia, I've had that, but that's pretty standard for international long distance like that. I get that no matter if he calls me at work, cell, or SR, or I call him from any of those.

The answering machine is on the S/R web site.
The phones blink red when you have a message and there is an audible stutter for a reminder whenever you listen for the dial tone.

I've sign up with Sunrocket, install is very easy but my download is slower. I download from newsgroup average 2.7Mbps, before I can download 4.2Mbps.

Any of the Sunrocket user experience the caller ID doesn't work? I try to call my own cellphone and it shows the caller as unknown, and when i call sunrocket number it also shown as unknown. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Let me guess. Most likely Cingular cell. Sometimes happens with T-mobile cell as well. These cell providers are very slow to update their number database, so new numbers aren't "understood" until those databases are updated. It is something that has to be done from the cell provider's end, although SR may be helpful with speeding the database update up.

Odd, mine seems to work both ways fine.....

Actually Sunrocket has acknowledged that many people have this problem and have had it for more than a month. It is not unique to my CLEC. Their technical people can't seem to solve it and they don't respond very frequently. If you surf some other forums you will see similar reports. Just because other people with the problem don't post here about it, doesn't mean it isn't happening. Rather than lie to the people on this forum, or shill for Sunrocket, I feel it is important to tell people here that the price is good, but the company is not. That means it isn't as hot a deal as some would imply.

Yawn. Yeah, I am sitting here in Tampa, FL, getting paid by SR to be their shill. Sure....

Seriously, man, you make is sound like there are tons of people with that problem. Even the bash-site BBRReports has A COUPLE of people with that problem. Whatever it is, it is ISOLATED to a very few. For you to make it appear like it is a widespread problem that has perhaps befallen a large percentage of SR users is untrue. Absolutely and unequivocally. Happy Football Sunday, though.

PS: There are LOTS of SR customers on this particular site (posting and reading in this thread,) perhaps a hundred or more. None have reported this particular issue. That does not tell you something?

Interesting, I never thought about that. Makes sense though that it might work for one person and not the next at the start.

Went through the setup process all over again this weekend--finally got myself an 802.11g to replace the b I used to have (I know, I know...finally!), and wanted a fresh start on the setup, so I took it all apart. Had no problems setting it back up though, just like the first time.

Welcome to the 22nd century.

czech-

This thread has become somewhat of a hangout place for some, sort of like a continuous blog. Would be a shame to abandon it at this point, IMO.

czech;
Really good excuse to buy yourself some new hardware or FIOS or at least 8MB cable...

Edited: Wait! What an opportunity for you to put some effort toward a FAQ!
