I signed up with AT&T CallVantage about seven weeks ago. It was $29.99 for the activation fee, $9.95 for shipping of the telephone adapter, $6.00 "charge for service added", $19.99 for the first month of service, and $1.39 for "taxes and surcharges". The total bill for the first month was $67.80 and this did NOT include free long distance - that was another 4 cents a minute. I could have chosen the long distance plan for $29.99 per month. When the box came the hookup was unsuccessful and I had to call the company. After being on hold for 29 minutes I got to speak to a human who had me doing all kinds of goofy stuff (for another 35-40 minutes) but nothing worked and they said maybe the adapter was bad. I hung up on them and stomped out to dinner. When I got back a few hours later it was working!
A few weeks later I got a card in the mail offering SunRocket. I spent a week researching the company and the service and then decided to cut my losses with AT&T. I ordered the Gizmo on Friday night and got it the following Friday. I immediately cancelled AT&T and they sent me a label to send their adapter back. It's Wednesday now (after last Friday's install) and I'm awaiting incoming calls to work. FORGET AT&T!!!!!

It may have something to do with my ISP, but I don't know.

there have been some "outages" of Sunrocket now and then... maybe the tech support you talked to at the time was not informed.

Check the VOIP forums over at Broadbandreports.com.

Everything on my gizmo (and in my SR account mgmt screen) still indicates my original household number. But it does show my xfered landline as an additional signature number. And calls to that number DO come through.

For the people that have transfered landline numbers (ImSeeker?)... did the xfered number show up as your household number right on schedule? or does it take a while longer past the "official" cut-off date?
It seems odd for them to ask me to reset my modem, when my configuration file (where my caller-id + household phone# is) hasn't changed. I've snooped on the configuration file, and it definately has no indication of my xfered number.

I'm just very nervous about missing a call if things are screwed up.

If you don't have to port numbers, is it effective immediatley upon hooking it up?

Pretty much. Probably within 30 minutes at most. (Mine was less than 5 min.)

ttown, even if you did "miss a call" you'd be able to retrieve the # from the SR WWW.
(Unless it were a blocked call (and you don't want those, anyway.))

Dear SunRocket customer,

I wanted to let you know that this morning SunRocket experienced a service outage when a fiber cut to one of our network providers caused the SunRocket system to go down. We shifted traffic to an alternate network provider to restore service. I apologize for the disruption.

use their software? network www?

Forgive my ignorance but I don't know what software you are speaking of or what you mean by 'network the WWW'.

The service went down again today. I later received an email from sunrocket saying they had to reroute because of a fiber cut.

On the other hand, this is the only gripe I have about the service, so it gets a 3 out of 5 for reliability and a 5 for everything else.

RideFree... are your comments "pretty much. probably within 30 min..." regarding my situation w/number transfer, or laketrouts situation, where there was no number transfer?

also... right now -- if i did miss a call, i wouldn't be able to see it because the call would come on a "signature" number (my xfered number is shown as a signature number), and when I try to view the call-log, SR says they are reviewing something (i forget the exact wording). Are you/anyone able to view a call log on a signature number?? or is it just me?
EDIT: nm about that last part... I AM able to see the call-logs for "missed calls", just not "full call log". That shows me what I'm interested in.
But the first question is still good.

ttown,
If you port your POTS#, S/R says 20 days for that # to become effective over S/R.

In the meantime, all three of your #s continue to work as usual. Do not disconnect POTS until told to do so by S/R.

As to "if you're not going to port your POTS over"...the S/R #s become effective when they become effective.
Capice?

?

Has anyone taken their Gizmo and phone with them to another area code, plugged it into a router (i.e.internet access), and been able to make and receive calls as though they were at home?

What about overseas? Mexico? Canada? USVI? Puerto Rica? S.A.?

SR FAQ says "anywhere in the US". But I see no reason why it wouldnt work anywhere in the world, assuming decent connection quality. To limit it to the US only, they'd have to be looking at the route between SR and the gizmo... which would be an added load/complication on their part -- so I'm guessing they say "in the US..." so they don't have to deal with quality issues abroad. (plus the whole, "hey, my gizmo quit working after i plugged it into this 220V outlet" issue)

I have done so extensively with my Broadvoice gizmo and my Vonage gizmo. No problems at all. I would assume SR would likewise work fine.

I for a while I carried the Broadvoice "gizmo" between home and work! 'til I decided not to work at home so much

Does anyone know of a source to purchase a stand-alone Gizmo? (Telco Access-211)
I'd like to have a second gizmo, if it's not too expensive -- which I could clone to make it look like my SR gizmo.
The google shows me no Access-211 resellers

All this portable gizmo talk has got me thinking...

Anyone try using Asterix with this service? For those that do not know Asterix is an open source linux distro built to be a POTS server with VOIP networks, it allows you to do everything from call waiting, teleconferencing, 3-way, 4-way, callerID, etc., and allows you to setup voice mail, additional line extentions (i.e. even if you only have one or two incomming numbers, you can have 5 or 6 or 100 internal numbers each with their own voicemail, etc.,....). You can even connect your additional regular phones through using this to modem cards in the computer, in addition to the regular VOIP phone support...

I had three numbers once my land line transferred. The third extra line disappeared after about 10 days. I did call Sunrocket just to verify things, and they said everything should occur automatically. It may have, but I noticed my former landline became the "primary" line that same evening. The third number was still there and disappeared about 10 days later.

I was told by SR that you can get extra free phone by refering 2 more users, they need to call SR to sign up, not online. why has to sign up by phone?

I just signed up with promo code WBFOGQ which gave me the Signature service w/unlimited US & Canada calling and 2 free phones for $199 annual. Upon completion of the order I was given a receipt for a monthly plan @ $24.95.

Called SR and Justin verified I was given the above $199 option but would regardless have to accept the monthly plan. After I got a little nasty about how I was going to make comments in a number of forums and that he should escalate my call to someone who could make a decision, Justin went offline for a few minutes, then returned and stated that SR relented and that my account would be referred to *headquarters* and assured that I would receive the annual billing plan.

Crossing my fingers!

edit: fixed some grammaticals

I see the offer for $19.99
But then it takes me to the next page for either $24.99 or $199
Is this the problem you had?

I just ordered and I saw that there was those two options and down below a promo code slot? Did you miss that promo code thing?

Yes, that is exactly what happened. I DID NOT miss the promo code at the bottom. In fact, I backed out and started all the way over before committing and the same thing occurred, which is why i committed then called customer service.

yep, that's the problem. you select $199, put in the promo code, but at the end you are given the $24.95/mo plan.

You clicked foreward on the $199 plan and got invoiced for the $24.95/mo.? I'd call that BSed (bait & switched)!

Don't the promos work or is SR temporarily disconnected from any form of sanity?
