Also connected my laptop to gizmo's LAN port, my laptop got internet access right away too.

so this gizmo should work ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD as long as internet access is available, no doubt about that.

Thats awesome. I want to do that.

Ordering Day +4, no package yet.

Just got a call and was told that SBC finally switched over. I plugged the gizmo into a phone jack and all the phones work but only my fax machine rings on incoming calls. Anybody have any answers to make the phones ring? Luckily I set up the fax to only pick up double rings which is what the signature number is set to. This should work correct?

You may have to much resistance in your house's phone wiring for the gizmo to provide enough power for all the phones to ring. Is your fax machine closest to the gizmo? Is it the only phone that is also using AC power? Try disconnecting all but one of your regular phones and see if it rings.

SBC never disconnected it from the house so I opened the box and removed the wire from the jack and now everything works perfect.

I talked to a rep the other day at Sunrocket and she says the signature line will eventually become a real second phone line. She tentatively said at the end of March, but I think we would have heard something by now. She could have been baiting me until the trial period is over, but who knows.

Hahh....baiting you? It would make sense for them just to switch it over. If that was the case it might be for free too then. I doubt they would want tot kae a line nad then all of a sudden make people pay for it. That seems like good news all around. :: crosses fingers ::

You probably did, but make sure you are completely disconnected from outside lines. If SBC decises to send a few packets over the line and you are not, you could fry your Gizmo. Just go outside and disconnect all the wires except the ground wire of course.

Baiting is when someone tells you something about a product so that you will buy it (bait and switch is when they renig on that something).

I hooked mine up today - voice quality is great, however I can't send or receive faxes.

Called in and they said that there are two faxing protocols - T38 and 'something else'... Right now, only the T38 protocol works.

He claimed their was a software release due in a month or two that would fix this and also provide for a dedicated fax line coming out of the Line2 port on the back. I understood that this was _in addition_ to the current signature line, not a replacement for it.

They don't seem like a baiting or a bait and switch company.

I got my package on day 5. Hooked her up and it worked on the first try.

Curious thing is that I saw in the docs that it said 10 days for line activation. But immediately my signature number worked whereas my home line didn't. Plus the home line number wasn't in the docs. Think something might be screwy?

Phones are sweet. Small, light weight, comfortable, and the second doesn't have to plug into a phone jack. Real nice.

In addition, I didn't need one wire on my own. Everything was in the box, it was great.

Then how do you explain a rep saying that the sig line will eventually become a second phone line, and no one else has heard of it?

Whose to say it isn't true?

So far this company has laid down everything upfront with my service. So besides rumors that spill on this board, I will trust the integrity of the company until I hear about that for myself. But speculation-wise, it seems to be a fair guess. Thats all. Nothing wrong with getting a little excited over something.

I signed up online for the $199 anual plan, got the phones and gizmo in a week and incoming calls 6 days later. I love it!

My question: I wasn't offered an option during the signup process of choosing an area code, it just showed me available numbers to select from within my current area code. I wonder if I could have chosen (or can now change) the area code on my signature number to some other area code? Or does the area code have to be the same for both numbers??

I've read elsewhere about people having success by calling SR member services and asking for a change in signature number.
All you need is for SR to offer their service in the area-code you want for the signature number -- then incomming calls from that area will be free for the people that call it.

I'm just waiting for them to offer the service in the area-code some of my family/friends live.....

I have to say that I am very disappointed with this service. Initially I had to keep recycling my Internet service every morning. That resolved itself after about a week but the quality of the service is very poor. Every time I talk on the phone I have dead spots where I cannot hear a thing from the other party for about 5 seconds. My family complains that the calls are very scratchy(just not clear) I am not sure what to do outside of cancelling the service and relying on my cable company phone service which is fine.

Well - if it is that bad for you - I think you should cancel.

Conversely, I've had this now for two months, have transferred my POTS line to it, have all the phones in my house ring, and everything works FANTASTIC.

So, I guess YMMV, but I have been VERY happy with the switchover.

Some spoke of quality issues and how a call to tech support prompted a firmware upgrade that improved things quite a bit. Have you spoken to tech support?

I think your internet connection is more of a problem. I have 3Mb Down/ 768k Up and calls are perfect. I've tried using sunrocket on my Human resources dept. where it received 150 calls a day when I posted a job opening in the newspaper and calls have always gone through and have never dropped. (that's what i've been told) Can't ask for anything more.

I have spoken to tech support on the internet issues but wasn't that happy with their support. I will try them again today on the quality issue.

ttown, I think that's at least half of what makes this so HOT!!!

Also, if you do any business in another state, it will make it a local call to any of your customers.

Yes, but can your signature number and your regular number be in different area codes? I've asked customer service via email but have yet to receive a reply...

I just found this thread, but I read on fat wallet that the promotion for the free phones is over?

However, I just read the last few posts, and I see some people still getting the free phones?

Are the free phones still being offered with the annual subscription plan?

I thought there was an answer to this ? in one of the comments in this thread...I have set it up before, just not with SR.
You might want to talk to a SR rep and relay your findings here as I'm sure others will be interested in the outcome.
