Had anyone with new SIP version (4.54) noticed that Sunrocket blocked port 80?

How DARE they block port 80 ?! Now my webserver is blocked !! :| I can't forward port 80 to my webserver...

older version (4.50) seems still ok on this.

any idea?

I'd bet that a call to SR tech support telling them that you don't want the port blocked --and it's really important to you -- you could probably get a tech to make your gizmo forward port 80. It is either configurable on their end, OR, you could push that they "down-grade" you to the prior firmware version.
Alternatively, you could put the gizmo behind your router, in parallel with your web-server -- but then you stand the chance of having quality suffer, depending on what all you got running (like filesharing, especially)

Wouldn't this be more a function of your ISP? I know for sure that my port 80, 21, 25, 110 and most other popular "server" related ports...If I want to run servers then I can opt to pay the extra for a business class connection...

I just tried out using the gizmo attached to my laptop, connected wirelessly to my 802.11b router -- and it works!

This means that the gizmo+laptop(w/lan+wireless adapter)+ac-adapter in the car, + wifi hotspot = ghetto mobile phone

Sound quality was fine. Was able to make and receive calls. The only issue was my cr@ppy wifi card dropping connection every once in a while.

Setup was like this:
phone==gizmo(wan)-->(lan)laptop(wlan)--> . . . . . wireless router(wan)-->modem-->cable
laptop(win xp) had wan and lan enabled, with wan set for connection sharing

Kind of interesting, but pretty impractical....
I suppose if you're living within range of a free hotspot -- you could set-up your home in this fashion and be ultra cheap.

The caller-id on my phone seems to be displaying names more frequently now. Is the caller-id fixed?

I have a belkin 2.4 ghz 802.11G router, and I believe it is interfering really badly with my phone. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this problem?
Thanks in advance!

hi state08

thx for helping. but actually i don't have anything running at all, but the still say it's choppy. I can hear them almost perfectly.
Could it be because the 2.4 ghz wireless is causing interference?

To solve any problem you must isolate the problem. Try a regular phone (not wireless) and see if the problem still exist. If it work OK with a regular phone you may have to change the channel of your router or the phone.

What is your setup? Is your gizmo in front of your router (between the router and cable modem) or it it behind the router? Do you know what your upload speed is?

This is exactly what mine was doing. I had to use dynamic rate limiting to make it acceptable. I filed a report with level 2 but I was told they have no idea when they will be getting back to me.

You have to go to 192.168.251.1. Password = welcome. Go to LAN and click dynamic rate limiting and put a value in there. I put 160 which is really low but I don't download much so I don't care. SR recommends starting at 200. Then you have to hit the reset button on the left. Then call somebody and see how it is. Mine was unuseable till I did this.

Since your problem still exist with a regular phone and you said your router is after your giznmo then it is not your router or the phone. If your callers complain of choppy sound of your voice then it has to be your Upload speed is too low.

There are many Speed Test site on the Internet and you should check your upload and download speed, it should be at least 250kbs.

Not always. My upload speed is over 300 kbps and I had this problem (see post above yours).

Hey folks, I got my Sun Rocket package the other day and got it set up with no problems! Got my incoming calls almost immediately, which was great.

Sound quality is awesome, and international to Argentina was better than my cell phone in terms of sound quality!

At any rate, what all did you all set up when you first signed up (call logs, voicemail, etc.)?

How much more than 300 do you have? VOIP works best the more you have. With 300 or a little over you are still close to the edge. SR's coded g711.u is bandwidth hungry.

GTFan-

Not even an outage experienced throughout this massive upgrade. Great job, SR. By far the best VOIP deal out there.

Averages around 330 on a Comcast cable connection.

Nightfalcon-

Don't use the term "everything works" around some of these folks. They'll give you a laundry list of things your $16.58 per month doesn't buy you yet, whether you need that "shortcoming" or not.

I was told that next improvement will be phone port 2 working on the gizmo with the signature number becoming a true second line at no extra charge. I can't believe that "no extra charge" on that yet. Then again, a year ago I would not have believed I could get all I was getting with Verizon and a whole lot more for 1/8th of the price and get fresh new phones for free to boot.

330 is a little skimpy. The way you tweaked the gizmo is good, but if you had a way to double incoming bandwidth you wouldn't have to do any of it and still have plenty to download with. The gizmo has some selections to go with a lower codec. For instance g729 is available, the same codec used by Lingo and Packet 8. The sound quality is not as good as with g711 but it uses less bandwidth. The typcial gizmo setup with the "Welcome" password does not allow for codec change, but there is another password that gives access to some advanced settings such as changing the codecs.

I can actually see the "value-add" as a freebie, come to think of it a little more. It is all about generating customers now and building a large customer base. It is a race for the indipendent VOIPs before cable-Telco offerings with convenient triple- or even quadruple-plays take some of the market away with attractive package deals. Then you can only draw with expanded features, which SR is building an impressive list to offer at the lowest cost level imaginable. Vonage spends $400 to generate a single customer, SR advertises some, but they "spend" per customer by eating all startup and port costs, providing 2 free cordless phones and offering features other VOIPs don't even include at double the cost. The "true" second line feature at no additional cost would fit nicely with their goals of gaining as many customers as possible before some of the cables and telcos get real serious about putting a lot of effort into VOIP.
