Interesting, let us know what they say. I haven't tried mine but from my understanding it's supposed to work.

I had another chance to try out some international calling this weekend. Decided to surprise a college buddy of mine who moved to Syndey, Australia some years ago, and dragged him outta bed on his Sunday morning (Saturday night for me) with a phone call.

Talked to him for almost an hour, all while playing World of Warcraft (okay, I'm addicted). Quality was great--no quality issues at all, in fact, which was a bit of a surprise to me since most international calls I've done whether from a landline or cell phone tend to have at least an echo or some popping from time to time. None of that at all--only thing I noticed was a slight delay from when I spoke until he heard me, but considering I was calling the opposite side of the planet that's not too surprising to me. The sound quality was great, and he was shocked to hear I was calling him on a VOIP line.

Don't ask me how to login as super user mode, I don't want to confuse anyone here...

In the SR's gizmo user manual (AC-211's user manual), it mentioned that you can reset it by dialing ##3332858 (D,E,F,A,U,I,T) to set the factory defaults, but it's not working on SR's gizmo, maybe SR have customized some settings of Telco's AC-211?

Any advanced user can help me? Tks...

Womp wom. So they caught you fatman? I wonder how that call to CS would be if no one here can figure it out. Any fix yet?

Mighty funny... they said that this was a priority but I still haven't heard from them.

I guess I won't need it until an emergency... that's when the ATTORNEYS come into play!

This deal kicks butt. I have it and it has been up and running for a while now. I am replacing my Vonage with this phone it is the best. Vonage didn't setup this easy. Was not this reliable and was not as easy to get someone on the phone. It kicks butt. If you go to their website and click on the yellow bird it will give you the code you seek.

Peace,

Anyone know the status of the second line on the gizmo? I could sure use it, and I have the b/w for it...

Had the service for 6+ months now. Other than a couple of significant outages of several hours, it's been pretty good. Had echo issues at first, but now they seem to be gone. It probably helps that I got an unexplained upgrade from Comcast to 4/400 :*)

Also, seems like SunRocket was not keeping track of international calls for quite some time. They told me they would not charge me for any calls until June - we had a whole bunch, that would normally total to probably at least $400 with Sprint, or around $70 with SunRocket - it's cool of them to do that (they probably had no choice, as they were probably not set up to track it), hope they don't go out of business because of screwups like this.

Not sure which one you mean, but if you're looking for a sign-up promotion code, you can click the parrot at www.sunrocket.com for one, or ask someone here for their referral code.

Congrats on the decision and let us know how it goes!

gibster, what do you mean about the status of the second line? I have two numbers and they both work on my SunRocket service.

Yeah, I heard about the international calling thing. I think it was a good move for them to inform us and not try to retroactively charge us for the calls--I can't think of another company out there that wouldn't try to find a way to charge for that!

The second physical line on the gizmo that is currently still disabled, AFAIK. Last I checked, there were rumors they would enable it with new firmware...

Got my Gizmo and phones this week. Plugged it into the router, hooked up the Uniden phone base and it was all good. Voice quality is excellent, as good or better than my wired service. Totally exceeded my expectations so far.

Yeah an SR engineer posted in the dslreports VOIP forum that they were working on enabling the 2nd phone line, and also on implementing immediate voicemail failover if your gizmo or net connection is down. Sounds like the 2nd phone line might even be a freebie, which would be pretty amazing for the price.
My service has been pretty good in the past couple of weeks, but the full call logs are messed up again, as in I can't view them. They actually had fixed mine last month (my ported number didn't show calls) but now it's broke again. Seems to be a fairly common complaint on dslreports but it's not a big deal to me as long as CID keeps working.

mm60-

I have not been charged for international calls as of yet. Had the service for over 3 months now and every month I run over the $3 call allowance by about $10 to $15, yet no charge as of yet. Like GTFan my call logs have not been working, so when I called customer service to find out if there was a different way to track my international calls (so I wouldn't go over too much) I was told that I would not be charged at all for any international calls as long as my FULL CALL LOGS aren't working properly. She said that that is the way they track calls, plus why should I be left to guessing how many international calls have been made? I was told that I would not be charged for any international calls until that is fixed, but just to be sure I made the CS rep make a note in my account to that effect. My full call logs started working last week, so I'll probably see charges for my int'l calls next month.

gibster-

Second line: From what CS and some SR engineers have been saying that is one of the top items they are currently working on. No exact release date, yet. Best I got out of them was "Definitely before the end of the year." There is talk of it being free. However, the only thing is that if you want to use your current signature line with that second port it probably would HAVE to be a local number (not an available ANYWHERE number in a different area code) because it would become a true second outgoing line and would have to comply with the FCC E-911 mandate.

Good, so I guess I have not missed anything. I was charged for international calls for May, but it was a bit below what it should be (charge of only $4, should have been $14 or so). Now my logs are as screwed up as yours, AND I have been making A LOT of international calls in June and July. With POTS, I would have paid an arm and a leg for that, with this service, it will be a lot less (or even free). I have no problem paying what I should to SR, I just hope these guys stay in business. From my experience, when companies start screwing up like this, it is not a good sign for the well-being of the company. If they collect for international, they will hopefully be OK, it looks like so far, the company is running solely on fresh meat.

gibster-

I asked the CS rep about the lost lnt'l call money. She said not to worry, SR has deep pockets and a strong backing, so it wasn't a big deal. Mind you, that was a lady in Level 1 support, a third-party support provider (CallTech,) so I don't know if she really knows the ins and outs of Sunrocket's finances. Of course, if one considers that Vonage is spending close to $400.00 to generate a single customer, SRs startup expenditures are probably considerably below that (even with free phones, int'l call "hole," free shipping, etc.) Seems like the companies that have a somewhat substantial client base are content to lose money or break-even for a while to grow their customer base. It just depends on how deep the pockets are, how much money they have available, how strong the backing is. I assume SR operates with a long-range plan that includes losing money in the first year due to shouldering all startup costs and throwing in the free phones.

I want to help them lose as much money as I can, now and in the future...
like 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 & 2010.

By that time my Dick Tracy wristwatch communicator will be on the market for $199 a year, also.

You get this through e-mail? Do they have an announcement page for new areas they move into or do you just have to keep checking/waiting for e-mail? I want to keep up to date for my parents who want it but they are kind of lazy...

They sent me an eMail.

Damn I shouldn't have said my service is good, now it's down and according to the dslreports forum it looks like a widespread problem. No dial tone, no calls, gizmo powered off/on but no joy. Way to go SR (again) .

I happen to be working on a "gizmo monitor" app at the moment using syslog. The syslog messages report successfull "sip registration". The gizmo is in fact able to register itself.
The site comes up fast, but logging in takes forever. I'm curious if there's a DoS attack going on....

The bad news for me is that my monitoring idea looks like it won't be 100% reliable

edit: hmm... good news for me is that there's additional syslog messages cooresponding to this current issue -- so maybe gizmo/service monitoring won't be too tough afterall... i hope. I'm monitoring some strange stuff happening... so I'm sure they're working on it.

You're right. However, from cell to S/R, it rings. S/R to cell, it's seemingly dead then normal busy tone.
