Looks like I might want to stay with Vonage until I have been with them 1 year to avoid the cancellation fee...

But I will probably change to SunRocket after that.

Ouch. What's the cancellation fee? And how long do you have left with Vonage? It might wind up being cheaper with the difference in price to switch to SunRocket in the long run anyway.

$39.99 if you cancel before you have been with them for at least 1 year... I would be due in late December.

ok, so after two phone calls, a 2 week delay in the shipping of my gizmo and phones, i have to say the only thing i dont like about the service is having to dial 10 numbers for every call.

as far as support goes, i called tech support twice and both times was talking to a human within 1-2 minutes.

i havent noticed any slowdowns in my broadband either, and i have the gizmo hooked up the way the picture shows.

agrall-

It would probably be worth switching beforehand. $16.58 vs. over $32 (with signature number) means that in a little over 2 months you have pocketed $30. If you call 411 at all, an additional $4. Anything int'l? Plus you get the SR phone value ($70) which you have to factor in either as nominal value or as hawk-value - should bring about $50 on ebay.

Two things to consider:

Porting a number from Vonage to Sunrocket may take a while, so if you want to do that you will need to be with both services until that is done.

Secondly, maybe by the end of December the 2-phone deal no longer is offered.

Just a few things to consider.

BTW, the code for month-to-month service at $19.95 with the 2 free phones is WBFOGQ

Sounds worth it to quit now.

EDIT: george beat me to it.

What he said.

How long does it take to port the number from Vonage? Is there anything one can do to expedite it?

Probably 3 weeks to 30 days. One person who switched from Vonage to SR reported that Vonage was dragging their feet a little and it took him almost 60 days. But typically about a month or a little over would be the expected.

I just had to add my $.02 to this thred. I ordered Sunrocket service last week. I went ahead and paid for the full year. My package arrived Friday. I installed everything to the letter yet I get no network activity at all. I installed before the router with their cable and my own cable. I installed it after the router as well just for giggles and drins. I've tried every possible combination of cables and configurations you could imagine. I get no network activity at all. No WAN light, no LAN light, nothing. If the Gizmo is installed I lose internet connectivity as well. To me the Gizmo is obviously dead. I called CS Sunday night and after jumping me through all the hoops I already jumped through, the CS rep said he would have to pass it to a level 2 tech and could he have my phone number. Then I never heard another word until I called them this evening. The only thing the CS rep could say was the level 2 tech had passed it on to a level 3 tech and there were no other enties in his system. WTF, why can't they RMA this stupid thing and get me up and running? I've forked over $200 of my hard earned money and they don't seem to care if they get me up and going or not.

Sorry, but I had to vent and this is where I learned about the service so I felt this was the place to share.

Actually, you haven't forked out anything yet unless they've changed their billing practices - I and others did not see the $200 charge show up for at least 30 days after the initial service order. YMMV.

Having said that, I agree that their 2nd/3rd level CS is either overworked or not scheduled well. There's no excuse for not immediately shipping out another gizmo when you got a dead one after ordering service, would leave a bad first impression on anyone.

This issue can be fully resolved at Level 1. Insist that the gizmo is dead and that it would not be necessary to talk to level 3, just to set up the ship of a new gizmo. Worked for me just recently when my gizmo was hit by lightning and a couple of times over time when one or the other of my customers had a similar gizmo issue. They shipped immediately. Call them tonight, tell Level 1 that you had a computer expert look at the gizmo and it was found to be dead, and that you need a new one sent overnight, that you can't wait for someone else to call you back. They will do so upon learning that you had a local computer tech look at it.

Well, it wasn't a direct hit of some kind. My FIOS modem/router died on me after a storm, so I called Verizon and they came out the next morning to replace it. He mentioned that the modem must have gotten killed by the lightning storm. So, my internet is back up and I notice my gizmo still gives no dialtone, even though the voice light was on. Whatever killed the cable modem obviously made its way through to the gizmo itself. I had my gizmo replacement within one day via overnight shipping by insisting that I did not want to wait for a level 3 tech to call me and that I was a computer tech (which is true) and checked all connections. The guy put me on hold for a minute then when he returned he said "Ok, we'll ship you a new gizmo overnight." He made me go through plugging in another phone with another phone cord just so he could document that we tried a fix "in his presence," and then the order was put in.

If someone has a problem where SR tries to defer you to a callback from a Level 3 tech insist that you are a tech or that you had a tech look at it. That should be enough to get immediate action.

I don't know if I'd advocate claiming to be a tech or whatever, but definitely call SR back and note that you've been without service for a time now and really would like to get this taken care of ASAP. I've always had positive and quick response from them personally, so I don't see why they'd not respond to this.

Just my $0.02.

Is there a code one needs to enter to get the 2 phones with the annual subscription, or is that automatic?

You can get a code from the website by clicking the bird, or you can get a referral from someone here. Either one will get you the two phones.

If I don't get satisfaction I always demand to speak to their supervisor. They will say "Hold on" and then come back with an answer to my problem after they have posed it to their supervisor. Thus far I have not found it necessary to actually speak to the supervisor, just the threat of doing so has seemed to work.

Is it just me or there is a problem with Sunrocket again.
I can't make a phone call and I already check all my cables.
I rebooted everything and still not working.

Very fishy. I can't make outbound calls either, and calling from my Bellsouth line to SR results in a fast busy (after 10 seconds or so). The SR number does ring eventually even though BS registers the busy.

I tryed to use their chat to talk with a representative and it is busy.
Their 1 800 # is not answering any calls.

So, I guess it is down.

looks like there's a problem. Talked long distance earlier tonight, but since then I've been unable to connect either locally or long distance. This is the second outtage since I joined a month or two ago. I'll give them one more mistake before I quit.

Hey, this time I expect to get 15 points rewards, so that I can use them with those 10 points they gave us the last time.
