lOh, the best place I've found for an extra handset seems to be J and R since I have a B&M near me. Newegg isn't bad shipped. Anyone found better? DCX640 is the model.

Geeks.com often has refurb sets for cheap. None of that specific model at the moment, but they have them fairly often and for extra cheap during their Green Light specials.

For anyone interested in getting a free Linksys PAP2 VOIP adapter for use with Sunrocket, Stanaphone, Sipphone, etc. check out my deal thread here. These are rebadged Sipura SPA-2000's with two lines and, although locked to Vonage initially, can be unlocked for use with anyone's service.

Awesome find, GTFan. I have now three gizmo's (if you recall I had lightning blow out port 1 of my original gizmo, so SR shipped me a new gizmo - plus one that I received from a customer who is moving to South America.) I have set up my "main gizmo" with SR, the damaged gizmo (only port 2 working) with Stanaphone and have not configured the gifted one yet. Of course, this deal is tempting, as it is (in the end) free. Is there something about the Sipura 2000 that I would like? Does it have settings that would add something to the service? I am tempted to just try it out, just wanted to see if you already tried it and can share your experience with some of the providers.

Well, I checked the 609 Princeton thing for you and they can actually sign up today if they want to.

If you go into the SR signup use your household number as promotion code (so you get the $25 referral bucks) in the area code window type 609, in the exchange window type 613, then your zip code. That should do it.

George, I'll let you know this weekend. I'm going to set it up with free Stanaphone inbound on one line and free Voipbuster outbound on the other and see how long my free phone service lasts . May main prob now is running out of cordless phones to hook to these things .

The Sipura line of adapters is commonly recognized as one of the best, with great firmware support and lots of features. Check out the Voxilla Linksys/Sipura forum for more info if interested. Also see the BBReports Sipura tricks thread.
I think the jury's still out on these Linksys adapters - they can be reflashed as SPA-2000's but some folks on BBReports are saying that you only see one line in the config by doing that. With Linksys firmware, some have said that they're not as good, but I don't know all the details at this point.

But for free, worth a shot to play around with.

Okay, dummy question here. I've just started messing around online with my phonebook. Can I set numbers in there and speeddial them from my Unidens once they're set up?

Nope, the Uniden phone book and online CONTACT LIST are not working together.

GTFan-

Definitely let us know after this weekend how it worked out. It would have to feature 2 lines to make it interesting, as the gizmo has that already and, once unlocked, both ports can be customized. I am particularly interested in features that go beyond the service itself (i.e. busy redial, dialplans, etc.)

Figured as much, but thought I'd ask. Seems like every time I turn around I find a new feature to play with, and didn't want to miss out.

But you can use the online phonebook to call out, right? Like if I'm on my computer I can tell it to call someone and my phone will ring with their call?

Yes. The cool thing is that you can use the web portal CALL feature from your signature line as well, so if you have a special Caller ID with Name on that it would display that.

A birdie (no, not the Sunrocket canary ) told me that soon you'll be able to make outgoing calls from a separate phone off an activated phone port 2.

Thanks for the help guys, but I wound up cancelling this and going with Optimum Voice. It turns out it's only $15/month for me and I just couldn't pass that up.

Does it have all the same features as SunRocket?

I'm pretty happy with my SR, but let us know how it goes. Would love to hear your review once you get it up and running.

Get unlimited calling throughout the U.S., Puerto Rico and Canada, and 13 popular calling features, all for just $34.95, all inclusive! I guess that's an all inclusive plan.
Possibly even better with a couple of S/R phones.

So, how do you get the $34.95 plan for $15?
Optimum Voice

Ridefree, Astrofan-

"To take advantage of this great new home phone service, you must be an Optimum Online subscriber in an area where Optimum Voice is available."

This only works in conjunction with having OOL cable (Cablevision.) It is cable-VOIP, so by definition more reliable than indipendent VOIP, using the cable line as the backbone. Like all cable VOIPs it is priced rather high (at $34.95 per month.) However, they have a deal where they give a $15 discount if you get the "whole enchilada" from them. That is cable TV, cable ISP and also cable phone. If you get a prime TV package there is an additional consideration. So, the price for the VOIP portion comes down to $15 if a top cable TV package is chosen. There is not much of a savings on the whole unless you already were a customer who had the premium TV package and their cable broadband service.

Ugh... No incoming or outgoing calls - AGAIN! All I get is busy signals when I try to call in or out. Resetting my gizmo fixed it but I had 2 people tell me they were trying to call me and had to use my cell phone instead.

SunRocket Sucks! I really regret porting my POTS service over to them!

Is working for me.... Anyone know any details?
A few unhappy posts over at bbr indicate Robor is not alone -- so I can't tell if there's a regional problem or ????
If resetting the gizmo fixed it, that indicates to me that some upgrade/change is going on. Or it could be 'resetting' didn't do anything, and service just came back up naturally.
Logged into SR and no word about problems there....

If anyone knows specifics, please post here or in PM....

Mine works fine tonight.

In fact, I got to use the online call log for real tonight. Someone random left me a message, wrong number, but with very detailed information. Unfortunately, because of a thick accent, I couldn't understand him. I got the number from the call log and called him back and helped him figure out he had dialed my number by mistake.

SunRocket, making the world a better place. Seriously though, it made me feel good to use the call log feature for that purpose.

Apparently there was a very limited issue due to a firmware upgrade. This from a post on BBR. We never experienced an issue at our end, but when I called Sunrocket to inquire about someone's expected gizmo package ship date I got a "Service alert" message which said that some customers may experience service problems. I asked the CS person about it, but he was not aware of any issue. He said "Whatever it was must have been extremely short because everything looks to be up and running from this end."

Anyway, Sunrocket has a new customer service phone system, it appears. When you call Sunrocket's service number (or dial 611 on your phone) it is a voice-activated system now. They are now using Tell-me's voice-activated system like so many other companies (Verizon, ATT, Amazon.com, the 1-800 directory, etc.)

When I was having issues before I called tech support and asked to have my firmware upgraded. I was told, "we don't do that". They Emailed me a form to submit where they wanted me to document a bunch of things and do a series of speed tests. If I'm having issues WTF do I need to jump through a bunch of hoops to get the latest firmware on my device? That's just stupid.

George (and others), you really need to go down to Staples and pick up one of these PAP2's to play around with. The deal now is even better than free because BestBuy has them on sale this week for $35, which means you can get Staples to 110% PM to the BB price and make $15 or so after tax on the deal. You might want to go soon, I hear that Staples has almost run out of them but that some stores have received more. They are flying off the shelves and both Linksys and Vonage are mad about it since they were never supposed to be unlockable.

I was able to unlock mine with no problems going by the BBReports thread. I also had no problems hooking up line 1 with Stanaphone and line 2 with Voipbuster, and after a 5 Euro deposit to Voipbuster via Paypal I can indeed have completely free phone service for as long as it lasts. I don't think anyone has figured out how to route Stana inbound to the second line so that you only need one phone yet, but that's a minor nit.

This thing has literally TONS of settings that you can play with to tweak it for anything you might want with VOIP services. Since it runs essentially the same firmware as the Sipura SPA-2000 (acknowledged as one of the best VOIP adapters), you have a really neat device to configure exactly how you wish. I can't give you a complete rundown on all the features, there's way to many to list, but I've found the Admin guide for it on the net here (be sure to click the free download button at bottom). You can look through it as you wish and see all the stuff that can be tweaked. All of it is available after the unlock.

TIA
