Nice, that's pretty cool of them. Did you sign up for the 1 year deal?

I think that was referring to the 15 month deal.

So, is that 15 month deal good for the life of the account or just that first fifteen?

Must be a router thing...my trusty ol' BEFSR41 is starting to be occasionally crusty after several years of faithful service. Every once in a while it simply needs a reboot.
Before bullit jumps in here, let me quickly say, "It's that damn Gizmo from S/R!" (not)
Besides that, the Giz is plugged into the bridge, as there were only 4 ports in the Linksys.

The Tony-

The deal is really for 12 months with a special promotion for an extra 3 months free. So, the renewal would be for 12 months once the 1 yr. is up. That is, unless they have another promo at that point.

Treat the Gizmo as a PC, plug it into one of the LAN ports behind the router. Make sure you have UPnP enabled. I set it up this way for my parents behind their D-Link DI-624 and they are running without any problems. This was you can also assign the Gizmo a static DHCP IP (kind of ironic name) and if they haven't locked down the interface you can access it by local 192.168.x.x

QoS won't do jack unless your ISP supports it. It will help your network internally but once the data is passed on to the ISP all packets have equal priority rendering QoS useless.

With the looks of it they may have millions of promos by then... Just read about that $9.95 for limitied minutes offer. Not too shabby.

I am coming up to renewal time in a couple months and thought about switching from the annual to the $9.95 plan.
They must have some statisticians working there, because I did the math reviewing my last few months of call logs -- and I'm averaging about 300 minutes outbound.
So I guess I'll miss the scorching-deal, and have to settle for just the hot-deal.

With the $9.95 deal voicemail is at $3. Are you not using that? If you think about it, you can get the 15 month/$199 deal for a renewal and you are at $13.27 per month. The $9.95 deal comes with 200 LD minutes and with voicemail you are at $12.95, only 32 cents more.

So I unplugged my Gizmo the other day and tried to call my # to see what would happen.... and nothing. I knew SR was working on the failover thing, but I didn't know it had not been solved yet. I checked with SR support, and the say that they are still working on it and to check back on the site periodically for updates. Anyone have additional knowledge on this one?

All with my daughter's abacus and 10 fingers on my hands.

SR will probably change it all with their next promo right around the corner. Stay tuned.

Failover is not there yet. Of course, with uptime the way it has been for a while it hasn't been much of an issue. Right now it goes over to voicemail after about 25 to 30 minutes of non-register. Still, would be nice to have it in case there is an outage, either service, electricity or internet. One thing you can do is set up a forwarding number, but that is not always easy if you are not near a computer. The only automatic way to set this up before faster failover is implemented (so you don't have to be on a computer right at that moment) would be to set up "Find Me Forwarding" with your home number as the first number in the chain, then your cell, signature number, etc. and use it in conjunction with a real answering machine (not SRs voicemail system.) The home answering machine would be set to pick up before calls would go to the next number on the "Find Me Forwarding" list. If your home has lost electricity or the internet is down calls would then be routed to that next number in the chain (i.e. your cell.)

Are you sure that we can just renew for the 15 mo./$199 deal? I thought I read on dslreports that you have to re-up with a new account, new gizmo, etc. Which is really stupid if true, but that's what I read (I think), that you can't get the same deal if you're an existing customer.

the signature number is a destined number that you choose so that other people that may live away from you can dial a number that is local to them but will still ring up your phone.

Heh, funny you mention failover george, I haven't even thought about it in months, the service has been pretty flawless for some time now.

I am just taking my chances, but my wife (usually home with 6-month old infant) has adequate backup anyway (cell, other per minute VOIP.) A friend of mine uses the Find-Me-Forwarding method (using his own answering machine instead of SRs voicemail) and we tried it out. Works very well. When he unplugged the gizmo from the wall calls were just routed to the next number on the Find-Me-Forwarding list, his cell. The thing about failover is that during every big outage from VOIP providers with failover in place it does not seem to work. When Voicepulse had several outages in a short time span the lack of failover (despite it being one of the features) was discussed. Same with Vonage's very long outage in August. Seems like when the provider has a big problem on their end failover does not work anyway in most cases. It does come in handy, though, if you have an internet problem or power outage at your house. All it takes is for someone cleaning up to inadvertantly unplug the electricity to your router or gizmo. That's where failover would come in handy the most, IMO.

You are right, uptime has been terrific, at least when we picked up the phone to attempt a call. With everybody here knowing not to mess with my gizmo/router/cable stuff lacking failover hasn't been an issue.

Quoting:

"the signature number is a destined number that you choose so that other people that may live away from you can dial a number that is local to them but will still ring up your phone."

SR calls this the ANYWHERE NUMBER. However, you may also just select a local signature number to have as a dedicated fax line or so-called teenager line. You can select distinctive ring for that number, which comes in handy for fax machines that can understand distinctive rings. Or for the person in your household running to the phone because the special ring signals that her/his school buddies are calling.
Not that unlike other VOIPs, Sunrocket's signature number comes with its own voicemail box and all features activated (such as call forwarding, call blocking, etc.)

I called SR up last week to ask about these issues. I was told that one could get the 15 month/$199 deal by calling them, even though it was no longer offered on the website. The same applies to the $100 int'l calling card deal. Someone with a gizmo (given to them by a friend) can call in and activate the $9.95 per month deal without incurring the $40 equipment fee. I was also told that if I wanted to I could sign up for the 15 month/$199 deal as an existing customer. I am not up for renewal yet (that is in March,) so it would not make any sense for me at this point.

To my knowledge that promotion expired at the end of November. There are a few other deals though: SunRocket Promotions I think the new one is a $9.95 a month deal that gives you 200 minutes a month.

Hahha....

ttown - Personally, I don't think the $9.95 is for me or prolly you - it looks great to chop off more dollars but we're saving a lot already at $16.58. So, yeah, I agree, a great deal comapred to a super hot deal. Heh. Not bad playin ball with SR.

Same problem here.

I had the same problem, also.
Seems to me that I had to cure it by logging in to the S/R site and manually clearing messages from what by then was three numbers.
Main # is the one I eventually ported over
Second # was now the first that S/R assigned and
third # was the second that S/R assigned (or I picked).

In other words,
Wait, do I really need to explain?
