Guys, the voicemail light flashing has nothing to do with Sunrocket, but the Uniden phones. They sometimes don't clear the VM memory. The fix is on page 38 of the Uniden phone manual that came with your phones: Hold the "FIND HANDSET" button on the base of your "primary" Uniden phone for a full 5 seconds. VM light goes bye-bye.

1. Busy Redialing - You get a busy signal, hit #5 and your phone will ring you back once the busy number has been reached by the system.

2. Forwarded numbers can be rung simulataneously. SR has sequential forwarding, so if someone calls your home number and the phone rings a set number of times it then rings on the next number listed (say, your cell) then the next number. A lot of rings go by before you may become aware that someone is trying to reach you. With Simulring you can have a few numbers ring simultaneously.

SR has a few features that vonage does not:

1. Better voicemail notification - When new voicemail comes in SR can be set up to notify via e-mail and cell phone, and also via IM (Yahoo, AOL, MSN, ICQ,) pager and SMS.

2. Second signature number with its own mailbox included.

3. Signature Message screener (discussed earlier in this thread)

4. Outgoing Caller ID WITH NAME. Vonage does not display your name with your Caller ID info, SR does.

5. Call Blocking - With SR you can selectively block calls from numbers you define. A long requested feature for Vonage. Vonage has no call blocking whatsoever.

6. DND/Selective Forwarding - You can set SR to Do Not Disturb and get no calls, or set it to call people from your "VIP" or "Family" groups only. Nothing of the sort with Vonage.

7. Contact Lists - Define speed dials from your contacts and simply dial "*01" from your phone

8. Anonymous Call Rejection - Get rid of those anonymous calls you get on your phone.

E-911 is currently deployed in 26% of Vonage's calling area, so it is hit or miss whether true 911 is available for someone's area, more likely not. SR's coverage is 97% of their customer base.
I can't fax with Vonage, I think you need a fax or business line to do that (costs extra). I believe the SunRocket service allows faxing without extra cost. If I can get this deal I may jump from Vonage, which I've had for over two years.

That did it, thanks!

BPB-

Faxing works well with Sunrocket for almost all who need to use it. There may be a tweak that is needed in the setup software, depending on your fax equipment, but we can help you with that here.

You would definitely save some money with SR (less than half the cost) and gain a bunch of extra features, as you can see. Only thing to consider would be time it takes to port numbers over. Sometimes it can take a little while, so you may have to have both providers for a while.

You can try SR for 31 days without obligation. If it somehow does not work for you just ship the ATA adapter (the gizmo) back with a pre-stamped label they send you. Keep the $65 phone system for your troubles. You may end up liking it, which means in that case you would slash your phone bill in half. Not too bad either way you go.

Thats works, still annoying to have to do that all the time.

I call SR about it, rep said engineers are aware of it and looking for a resolution.

I still love the service, for the several months that I've had it.

Good find George!

Has anyone signed up for the $9.95 deal, by the way?

Not here. Most sign up for the $199 deal or the unlimited $19.95 month-to-month. I would be interested as well.

Pulse 8 has not posted for a while. They probably took care of his $398 hole he was in, I would imagine. It was a billing error, apparently.

They actually refunded my credit card as well $398, and then charged me the correct price (They had credited me $5 for some reason so my total as $194).

So it's all sorted out now?

The idea behind this is that it fixes it. You should not have to do this "all the time" but only once in a blue moon. I don't think the rep understood exactly what you were asking, because this is really a Uniden phone issue of sometimes retaining the VM light memory when it shouldn't. Perhaps SR can set it up that updates to the phones from the Voicemail provider (Ureach) can be sent more frequently, and with a "flush" feature. But if it only happens once in 4, 5 months or so it seems to be an easy fix to just press the "Find Handset" button. If you have this all the time, of course, the issue is a bit more urgent.

They probably gave you $5 for the hassle. Pretty cool. Didn't you get an extra phone as well? They must like you, they must really like you.... (best Sally Fields impression )

Actually the $5 was credited from the very start of my invoice, NOT after they screwed up. I'm not complaining... They did not send me the phones, as I went with the xtra 3 months special.

Update on my "wife test":

She has been complaining about echo's a lot lately... I am not blaming SR yet because my frickin DI-624 (which I have the Gizmo behind) has been acting up ever since I got SR. I have recently re-acquired an old WRT54G router that I plan on putting the HyperWRT firmware on - which seems to get good reviews. Once I switch over, we will see what is what....

Brinks Security FYI:

My Brinks has been acting funky ever since I switched to VOIP - even when the call quality is amazing. I called them today and they said that they have to come in and upgrade the alarm control system to support VOIP (which they do support at least). That little endeavor will cost me $125 for the service they say.

Gee - your savings will only be about $300 this year over the Krap Qvest.
(Next year, you get to save it all.)

I got an invoice from S/R a couple of days ago and did not notice it 'till today because of my new "stricter" parameters on my spam trap.

The invoice was for $199 for the next twelve months and they stated that they had billed my cc. I called to see what wuz up and they informed me that this was yet another glitch in their whatever. He stated that S/R has not yet come up with a retention "deal", but that they are working on it.

10000000xx is apparently my customer # if anything in the invoice is accurate.
(I would have started the customer numbering at 1000001xxx to make it look bigger in the beginning.)

Actually, I got two different invoice #s on two different account #s and both completely FUBAR.
They were for Nov. 1 to Nov. 1, and Dec. 1 to Dec. 1, respectively.
It looked like they were trying to get ready for the renewal process, slipped up and mailed them in error.

One of them also stated that they charged my cc which they stated that they had on file. However, they can not have my cc on file as it was either a temporary # or other safety measures.

It was a disappointment that it was not for 15 months and $199 but when I mentioned it to the sales rep, he stated that he did not think that the 12 months and $199 were set in stone as they were working on renewal pricing, he said.

That?s all I know. I?m drained of knowledge and probably won?t be capable of posting anything for weeks.
Would the cheering section please step to the back of the room?

Aha. SR started national business almost exactly one year ago. Some of the 1-year renewals are going to start coming up. From the sounds of it renewers will be taken care of better than with the $199/12 month deal. Here I was skeptical that the $199/12 month deal would last and SR would raise prices. Looks like the opposite has been happening.

Or, even better is the YMMV $24.95/yr deal, also attributed to a screwed-up billing system which charged me for one month when I signed up for the annual deal. I called them three times because I wanted to see them get paid (and dreaded the possibility of losing my phone service whenever somebody figured out the error).

Anyways, I gave up trying to get them to take payment after three tries...

skunkbuster -

If what you are asking is, Can you have all of your phones in your house work with this service, with the phones in their current locations, then the answer is yes, although I don't think SR supports it. I actually have it installed this way.

What you need to do is disconnect the normal phone service from the Demarc Box situated somewhere on or near your property. This is what powers and provides the phone service to your house. Once that is disconnected, all of your phones in your house will be dead. At that point, all you have to do is plug a telephone wire from the Phone1 jack of the Gizmo into any phone jack in the wall of your house, and VOILA.

Some caveats about this though: The Gizmo has a REN (Ring Equivalency Number) of 5, which means you can have up to 5 phones ring throughout the house (give or take depending on distance ...). If you have more phones than that (like I do), then you can either turn off some of the ringers, or get a ring booster which increases the number of phones which can be rung.
