Hi, do you happen to know if you can specify an international number for the signature number (011 44....)? This way if someone was in the country that you specified in the signature number they could call it at a local rate.

From the SunRocket FAQ:

Can I get a phone number from another area or city?
Yes, you can get a SunRocket Anywhere Number. An Anywhere Number allows you to choose a number with an area code outside your local calling area. During sign-up, you are given a choice of nationwide area codes.

Can I get a phone number from another country?
Not at this time.

(Hey, I have relatives in the Netherlands - that means "little brother" in Dutch, right? )

Your problem is very strange and unusual, so it requires a bit more info. I am sure there is a fix for it of some kind, as that is not widespread service behavior.

Ok, let's start with your equipment: Can you list the modem brand and router brand? What exactly is your download and upload speed with RR? Are you trying to download something from Bittorrent or Limewire when you experience the problems? Are you using the 2.4 GHz Uniden's with a wireless router (also 2.4GHz) which sometimes may cause interference?

Let us know, so we can get more into the problem you are experiencing.

CamVale-

There are no int'l signature numbers with SR. However, most of Europe charges per minute phone rates (even for local) so it could actually be a lot cheaper to set up a $9.99 account over here and ship the gizmo overseas, so you can talk to them on an unlimited basis (provided they have broadband internet.)

georgepa you are right. Broertje means "little brother" in Dutch. My download speed is about 4.83 Mbps and my upload is about 378 Kbps. I am using a Netgear MR814 b wireless router and yes, I am using the free phones from SunRocket. RR gave me a Toshiba cable modem DAZ8821F. I normally do not download anything when we are using the phone. So, it cannot be Bittorrent or Limewire. I am searching on the inernet to see what else I can do.

Ok, you may be running into general 2.4 GHz issues of incompatibility, with 2 devices running at 2.4 GHz simply messing each other up. Not often, but occasionally devices running at the same frequency can't be used together, or not very well. The 2.4 GHz Uniden phones may be messing up your 2.4 GHz wireless Netgear router. The effect may be that your wireless "goes offline," thus your voice is interrupted or you notice the 15-second delays. 15 seconds because the wireless router probably has just short blackouts and comes back online, so the phone call packet is put on hold until internet is established again, resulting in the delay.

Obviously try using your SR with another non-2.4 GHz phone, either an old corded phone or a 900MHz or 5.8GHz issue. If it still gives you that same problem there has to be an equipment problem. Either your cable modem or your wireless router or your gizmo has some kind of short, causing it to blackout for very short periods of times. My guess would be to remove the cable modem from the "suspect" list because a temporary short-related power throttle would take longer for the modem to come back on, you would probably notice "dead air" for almost a minute instead of just 15 seconds. But still, if the other units don't show strange behavior check the modem lights during those 15-second blips, just in case.

Moving onto the router or gizmo then: Try using the phone and when you notice the 15-second dead-air phase try to see if you are actually online on the internet. If your internet is out (gives you a "Page can't be displayed" message when you try to browse) and then comes back after about 15 seconds, there may be a problem with your wireless router. If your internet is unaffected you still want to look at the router and gizmo lights to see if any light temporarily drops out just to come back in short time. On the gizmo the light to look for would be the voice and power lights, on the router check all lights during that mini-outage.

Since this is not at all typical behavior I would recommend in case the behavior persists to call Sunrocket and insist on shipping a new gizmo to you (they ship it for free and provide a prepaid postage label for the other gizmo) to eliminate that piece of equipment as a possible culprit. You'll probably find the bug with all this, but if it STILL acts like that after, look into also replacing the router.

Good luck.

Talk about an "Ah Ha..." moment! Signed up via Sunrocket website for the $199 yearly plan on Saturday, January 14th - received my Sunrocket gizmo package with the 2 free Uniden DCT646 phones on Thursday, January 19th. Okay now for the fun stuff.

1. Open box and throw aside any instructions, warranties, welcome letters etc.
2. Upack and power up VOIP router.
3. Plug in handset base unit to phone1 jack on back of VOIP router.
4. Connect the VOIP router using its WAN port to my LinkSys workgroup switch.
5. Pick up phone immediately get "Out of Range" - then realize phones not charged - 15 minutes later pick up phone and get dial tone! Make calls and test incoming - leave some voicemails etc. Un-frikking-believable! Sound quality is crystal clear on both ends - absolutely no performance hit internet service wise etc.

Can anybody say "Ah haaaa!..." For me it was all the more an inspiring moment that it worked out-of-the-box considering my setup:
ISP's Microwave MMDS broadcast tower 12 miles and 8,000 foot elevation away -> Roof-mounted microwave anntenae -> Modem -> 4 port Belkin Router/Gateway -> 1 port hard-wired via CAT5 to a Linksys WAP configured as access point (left antennae hooked to an indoor Wifi Parabolic Antennae pointing out through the glass of a rear window in my Mom's house toward a rear window of my house 300 feet away) -> Linksys WAP with matching indoor antennae in my window configured as access client to first WAP -> Linksys 5 port workgroup switch -> Sunrockect gizmo -> my VOIP phones!

If this isn't too cool or what? All I can say so far, is that sound, clarity, heck everything, far exceeds what I expected! Already have customer service numbers for Qwest (residential POTS service) and Working Assets (long distance provider) at the ready for tomorrow morning and cancellation of their service. Will also request a field tech from Qwest to disengage incoming phone power line so I can hook my gizmo into house jack and use internal wiring to hook up any and all VOIP-service phones throughout the house!

Will they actually come out to your house and disconnect the wire? I did it myself. and rubber banded a bright green sticky note on the disconnected wire saying not to connect, that it would damage equipment in the house.

Do not cancel your old service if you plan on transferring your existing number over to SunRocket (you will lose the number). Request SunRocket to move your number over and that should automatically cancel the service (you can call to verify after the number has transferred). If you are not planning on transferring your number, ignore this message.

Welcome to SunRocket

JC,
You can easily disconnect Qwurst at the D-mark box attached to the side of your house. Why let them sniff around?
The "load" side vs. the "line" side of the connections will be obvious to you once you're inside the box.
Just disconnect the "Line" side (the wires from Qwurst) and leave the wires to your house alone. Some "internal patches" are accomplished at the D-mark by techs and you still want your house to function correctly (i'm guessing).

Congrats on the new signup! I loved the feeling of getting SR...liberating in a way. Nice new toy, too--all my family got to hear about it as I decided I needed to call everyone in my phone book to tell them about it.

FYI for those that are curious.

I repaired somebody PC and wanted to check the modem, since I don't have a POTS line anymore.
I use my SunRocket connection and was able to maintain a 30kb connection. Not really surprising, if people can fax over SR.

Also, I have RoadRunner as my internet provider and thus the speed is pretty fast. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Broertje - In addition to what Georgepa has you doing, Have you run a speed test on your line? Just curious.

Thank you for your prompt reply, georgepa and DoozerM. I changed the phone to a 5.8 Mgz but I am still experiencing problems. I contected SunRocket but I am still waiting for a reply. I am still experiencing dead air time. Also when I place a call, there is no connection on my end but the people receiving the call keep saying hello and they cannot hear me. I am planning to invest in a new router and will probably buy a Linksys Wireless Router (WRT54G). Hopefully these problems can be resolved. Any further advice will be appreciated. By the way DoozerM, the voip test ranges from 3.0 to 4.0.

Does anyone know if they are still honoring the 15 mos/$199 with free phones deal? Is there still a code to mention, and also, any shipping for the Gizmo/phones/setup fees/etc?

Thanks!

Mr. Happy (and others): It is either the "$199 for 15 month" deal or the "$199 for 12 month with 2 phones included" deal.

Here are all the deals Sunrocket currently offers:

$199 for 15 months of unlimited service to the US, Canada, Puerto Rico. That deal includes 2 incoming numbers, each with their own voicemail box, $3 of international call allowance, lots of features. That deal works out to $13.27 per month. SR has no startup or setup fees, $199 is all you pay for 15 months of service. Remember also that the $199 is not a contract. SR has no cancellation fees and if someone wanted to cancel in the middle of the year they would get a pro-rated refund of the unused portion of their $199.

Signup link is: http://www.sunrocket.com/sign_up/signup.do?tcd=YAH98ks

$199 for 12 months of unlimited service, 2 Uniden cordless speaker phones included. Same features. The phones have about a $60 value. Take this deal over the first one ONLY if you really needed new phones anyway.

Signup link: http://www.sunrocket.com/sign_up/signup.do?tcd=Def34w3

$199 for 12 months of unlimited service, comes with a $100 international calling card. Again, all the same features as the two deals mentioned above. This deal includes a $100 call allowance to international destinations, which comes out to $8.33 allowed per month. Take this deal ONLY if you have international calling needs that are higher than the $3 international call allowance already included in the first deal. If a caller uses all of the international minutes that are included in this deal he can bring his monthly service cost way down.

No signup link, but Sunrocket will honor this during call-in. Here is a picture of a flyer Sunrocket currently is mailing out to show this particular deal:
http://www.dslreports.com/speak/slidesh...t=L2ZvcnVtL3JlbWFyaywxNTE3OTMyNw%3D%3D

$19.95 month-to-month for unlimited service. Those who are hesitant to pay $199 upfront can use promo code WBFOGQ to bring monthly cost down to $19.95 per month and also include the 2 free Uniden cordless speaker phones.

Signup link: http://www.sunrocket.com/sign_up/signup.do?tcd=WBFOGQ

$9.95 per month for limited service: 200 long distance minutes included, incoming calls unlimited, SR to SR calls unlimited, all full-service features included except second number and voicemail (both are an extra $3 each per month.) Includes the 2 free Uniden phones, but comes with a $40 equipment fee. The LD minutes can be used not just in the US but in 41 international countries/destinations.

This one gives me goosebumps. I call internationally all the time, and that was the principle reason I got SunRocket to begin with--their international rates were so cheap next to a standard phone service they alone saved me a LOT of money. I'm almost looking forward to renewing to see what deals are around for me then.
