I find a lot of features missing from Viatalk that I enjoy with Sunrocket.

Perhaps when they add those it will be comparable and worth a try for me. Pricewise they are equivalent, which is a great thing for all VOIP customers. Under $15 per month for both of these services, who woulda thunk it possible just a year ago?

I tell you one thing: Were Sunrocket to fold or have major problems (or be gobbled up by another VOIP or Telco and price-adjusted) Viatalk would be my choice, as the next-best thing.

I've used ViaTalk for about 9 months, and I LOVE it. It has worked perfectly, customer service has been friendly, and it's cheaper than most other services. My favorite feature, or at least one of my favorites, is having all of my phone messages being e-mailed to me as WAV files. That way when I'm away from the house but have internet access I can easily listen to my messages.

I just dumped Vonage. They don't pass your name in outgoing CallerID and sometimes they don't pass your number either. When that happens you'll come up as "Unavailable" for name and number. I've got friends and family who have Verizon's 'Anonymous Call Intercept' service to prevent spammers from calling. Well, it also prevents me when my name and number aren't passed. Even those that don't have the service usually don't pickup when my number isn't passed because they assume my Unavailable call is a spammer.

Anyway... I'm going to try either ViaTalk or Sunrocket again. My previous experience with Sunrocket was a bad one but I think a lot of it had to do with the VOIP 'gizmo' rather than the service itself. And at the time Sunrocket's customer service was absolutely horrible. I hope it's improved since then.

EDIT: Well, my decision just got easier. I just checked and ViaTalk service is not available in my city (Palm Harbor, FL). Oddly it's available right up the road (Tarpon Springs, FL). Guess I'll be calling SunRocket today.

Anyone know if you can do this deal if you already have ViaTalk service? I just signed up for 3 months of service in February, but I would switch to this plan if I can change mid-stream.

I had ViaTalk for a 2 week period. Their customer service and call quality are great, and the price is very attractive as well. However, it turned out that they couldn't port my number over, so I had to cancel with them. I have since switched to Vonage and I would say that both the call quality and customer service are slightly worse. They were able to port my number, though. I would definitely recommend ViaTalk if they are available in your area.
