I would definitely recommend ViaTalk if they are available in your area.

Now that Vonage has your number, maybe now you can port it to ViaTalk. Vonage does have a trial period.

I would like to see more posting on the voice quality of ViaTalk. Vonage has a better voice quality over SunRocket (hard to describe, like an echo), but I was willing to take a hit on quality for the price.

For me, voice quality has been great. I did try ViaTalk for 2 full months before I was sure I wanted to port my Pac-Bell number to them. I've had VT for about a year now, and they just keep getting better. They have added several new features over the last few months. They really are customer driven and listen to what we have to say. The biggest test was the WAF. But I don't think she's even noticed it's not a POTS line

This deal is dead. No more $199 deal, it went up to $19.95 per month=$240 for the year. Even the 2 free months added is supposedly going to end tonight.

From the CEO of ViaTalk, in regards to the $199 offer:

"Hi,

It will be back tomm. actually I do believe. We have a bunch of different pricing structures that we have plans to be rotating around, its all about finding the one that people seem to like the most.

I signed up on Wednesday, received my PAP2 on Friday. Hooked it all up and had Vonage forward my number to the ViaTalk number to test it for a week. My home phones do not ring when a call is coming in. If I use my cell and call my VT line, no ring, but I can pick up my VT line and it connects like it was ringing. Have to call CS to find out why this isn't working. (I was on hold with them and all of a sudden CS went unavailable, ~10:45AM EST, when I call back it says they are currently unavailable.) :frown:

Second, the more I use it, it seems that the 500 minute plan is 500 minutes used, not 500 minutes long distance. I like month-to-month plans and if the 500 minutes plan is total amount of time. A local call and toll-free numbers shouldn't count against my minutes... I will get clarification when I call CS...

VT has been upgrading their servers since Thurday. You may have got caught up in that. I had to change servers and all was well again.

The 500 minute plan is exactly that...500 minutes of local and long distance. That's the same with all providers since they do not distinguish between a local call and a long distance call. ViaTalk does NOT count calls to 800 numbers against your 500 minutes. ViaTalk also does NOT count incoming calls against your 500 minutes. So the only thing that deducts from your 500 minutes is when you pick up the phone and call any number other than an 800 number.

I wish I did own it !! I've been using them since they started up, about a year ago.
The cost savings of voip over a traditional line is HUGE. I'd like to see more people using voip and I feel VT has one of the best offerings.

Up until this thread, the only company mentioned here was SunRocket. And that thread has thousands of posts, with 100's from the OP. Is he the owner of SunRocket? I doubt it. They are just a company he uses and he thinks others might like also.

But that thread lives because of the community of users, not because one person keeps bumping it.

So that thread isn't really in the right forum them ? I see you posting in it about your billing problems.......do your billing issues belong in a hot deals thread ?

I've been signed up since last Wednesday, got the PAP2 on Friday and it's still not working. Spent ~1 hour last night talking to VT tech support trying to fix my problem.

I am not getting a normal telephone ring on an incoming call, if I'm lucky enough to get one at all. The caller ID always displays. I had the tech listen to the ring while I called the number with my other cell phone and he has absolutely no idea on why it doesn't ring correctly. He mentioned things like the phone not working, phone cord damaged, etc. But I have tried two different phones, with two different cords, same problem.

So he tweaked a few settings, nothing helped. I asked him if he thinks the PAP2 could be damaged. He didn't think so.

I then mentioned that I had a second PAP2 with Vonage, and that when I have my phones hooked to it, the ringer is fine.

So my cable internet, cable modem, router, phone and phone cord is all the same and it works with Vonage. Only difference is the PAP2 and VT's service. He assured me that the service looked correct and that the only thing left that could be it is the PAP2.

So he is sending me another one. Hopefully that is the problem as I have no idea what else is could be.

This is getting frustrating, but VT tech support has been very helpful in attempting to find a solution for the problem. I just wish they would find it!

How exactly does the free 800 offer work?

All incoming calls to your 800 number are totally free?

I signed up less than 2 weeks ago, I was told by C/S that the free 800# is for 60 min. per month and anything over is 5 cents per min.

Also I have Vonage and had it sence Dec. 2002 wanted a second line and went with packet8, had sence July 2003.

Price, Voice quality, caller id with name, and the free 800# beats Packet8 hands down.

Yes, the first 60 minutes are free for the 800 number. After that it's 5 cents per minute.

The $199 deal and the 800 number alternate days. ViaTalk has decided to mix it up and change deals each day.
So if the deal you want is not offered today, check back tomorrow
