wow! got my volcano 12 today and didn't realize how big it was until i saw it in front of me. i am accustomed to the retail fans that come with the amd cpus. volcano 12 is very heavy too. will this weight put too much stress on my MB when the case is placed upright? btw, I think i will use the manual fan speed adjuster instead of the temp controlled.

I got one on my Shuttle AN35N-U and yeah, it is big! I higly recommend that, if you move your PC like when going to a LAN party, u either take the HS off or make sure the case is very well seated in your car. But if u just have it standing upright under your desk and don't move your case, then u're all fine, as it uses all six braces of the socket.

I use the Volcano 11 w/ my AN35N-U and with my Raidmax case there is about a paper thin space between the HSF and the PSU. Is the 12 any bigger? How about quieter?

Hi!

Does anybody know if one can use the temperature sensor AND the control knob? I want the sensor to work for me when im afk but i want the option to use the knob too if i wanna o/c or tweak.

Any ideas?

I have an Antec 550w Truepower....the controller controls the MINIMUM psu fan speed. Therefore if it requires it will spin faster of its own volition. Doesnt the Volcano12 controller work in the same way?

If say u had the thermal probe hooked up aswell as the controller, and the controller is set say at 1/3....but the thermal probe wished to spin the fan faster, wouldnt the fan spin faster?

Im assuming that the controller controls the MINIMUM spin speed and not the ACTUAL spin speed. Any clarrification on this would be most welcome, since i wish to fit it soon!

It wouldn't be able to do it in Volcano 11+. If you used one you couldn't use the other. If you already have it just take a look to the manual.

Thx for your replies McArra,

im not sure u r answering my question dude. my question relates to the status of the controller: does it regulate MINIMUM fan speeds or the ACTUAL fan speed.

i.e Minimum = Controller set to 2000rpm, the fan wont drop below this point, but could, given instructions from somewhere else go higher.

i.e Actual = Controller set to 2000rpm, the fan wont drop below 2000rpm AND will not rise above it, despite any other inputs.

If the answer is the former, then im sure both temperature sensor & controller can work simultaniously.

use the thermal control, works pretty well...

dont hook both of them up cause you hooking up two resistors in parallel then and will have too little resistance.

Thx for that Abzstrak,

so too little 'resistance' would mean neither would work?

Sorry im pretty ignorant about electronics, please elaborate if u could

when you add resistances in parallel you have to take the inverse of the sum of the inverses or the resitances....

so if you have a 2ohm and a 3ohm resistance then you must add their inverses (1/2 + 1/3 = 5/6) then take the inverse of that anser (5/6)^-1 = 6/5... so that toal resistance would be 1.2ohms...

so it probably wouldn't hurt anything (assuming the fan doesn't NEED some resistance), but your fan would spin way faster then you want it to...

I should think that the volcano 12 speed control functions the same as my smart case fan 2, and if so they you cannot use them both at the same time. I recomend just using the manual control and just keep track of your tempuratures.
