I haven't purchased from them yet but I'm going to this week. You can select the items you want and then get shipping costs without going thru checkout or anything else. (My purchase will be $20 so I'll take a shot, thanks for the ratings info.)

The 6Cu is a good heatsink but the clip is VERY HARD to get off once it is on. Go's on ok though.

I got the 6CU and decided to buy it locally then use Amex Pricematching to get the price from these folks. The temps are running good and at 31 dbA, it's a lot quieter than what I had but still the same temps.

ehhh...its pretty hard to get on too. i've heard stories where people push down too hard to get the clip on and end up crushing the cpu.

Ive got a f#cked up motherboard that can attest to how hard they are to get on. The screw driver slipped and BAM cracked mobo.

Just FYI, this heatsink is INCREDIBLY loud with the 7000rpm fan. If they have the 6Cu (non-+) version, it's a LOT more tolerable for only about 3 extra degrees C and a lot less noise - has the same fan as the 6Cu+ only @ ~4000rpm. No reason for it to be painful to be around your computer...

i worked out a decent way to get it off with a very small screwdriver that fits into the slot very well combined with a saab 900 (classic) front disk brake tool. no problems now

This is the same company as webuildpcs.com, there have been a number of threads about them in the past. Most people were well satisfied with them. The company is owned by a guy named Eric.

i've ordered from webuildpcs.com before, and i have to say the customer service was terrible...almost non-existant. good luck trying to get a real person to respond or talk to. i'll never order from them again...sticking to newegg or svcompucycle.

Two warnings:

(1) I own two Volcano 6 CU+-they aren't hard to get on or off (use a small screwdriver, wrap tip with tape first in case you slip) but they are loud. Definately not for a quiet environment.

(2) WARNING-buy from Ability/WeBuildPCs at your own risk-they owe me $100+ for returned (RMA'ed) power supplies since last September-have ignored repeated emails and letters, very negative resellerratings.com posting. Impossible to reach by phone. I bought from them because Eric is a member here, was a horrible mistake. They always come up with the understaffed excuse, but this seems to be a way of business for them. I would not reccommend them to my worst enemy.

I bought the "loud" one at Newegg for $19 shipped. The "quiet" one is the same price.
I haven't install it just yet - going on a 1800+.
Would a shim be a good idea with this ?

Don't want to crack that AMD giveaway board now that I bought goodies for it.

Newegg vs Ability = seems like a no-brainer to me.
So Ability charges $9 while Newegg is $13, then they make it up on the shipping.

I wonder if I will notice it's loud with a 120mm 45db in the case ?

I've used the Volcano II and 6cu+ (minus the 7000RPM fan) and the easiest way I've found to attach/remove the HSF is to turn the motherboard so the notched end of the Volcano is facing you. Put on the back clip and use a flat head screwdriver to push down on the notch. I found it helpful to push down carefully on top of the fan with my other hand to distribute the pressure. Make sure you have firm but not too tight grip on the screwdriver, otherwise you could deflect it straight into the motherboard (almost happened with me).

I have ordered from webuildpcs.com many times with no problems. They have always shipped quickly and accurately, except for once when I ordered a 1.2 Athlon and they sent me a 1.4 instead! I order almost exclusively from them and newegg now. Plus their shipping is very reasonable. In fact I think I am going to order one of these right now. Stay away from the 7000 rpm fan if noise is an issue. I have a similar fan right now and it sounds like a hairdryer!

It did happen to me! And on another, the damn clip broke!

I have one on my 1.2 duron...It's way too loud. I need a 60mm to 80mm adapter because this is killing me, only fan in here, and it's louder than the XP1600+ with retail HSF, and 2 case fans. ...got it for 10.00 at Frys. (Mis-marked, the rest were 15 or 17 (same exact boxes, but some were marked cheape, none were 10, it was a mistake by the cashier )

I've ordered from them, probably never will again. I've ordered the HSF you mention, but what I got was on back order and when I got it, looked like it had been previuosly installed.

This company is Cen Com, or Central Computers. They are www.webuildpcs.com , www.abilitycomputers.com , and I think also www.theoverclockerzstore.com . I've ordered twice from Ability and once from We Build PCs. Their stuff is cheap, but its not worth it due to their lack of service.

Specifics:
I ordered parts 2 weeks ago, was sent a case that had a broken front. I called the company, was told they'd send out the replacement part. I was sent the wrong part (also had items that were on a separate order that was not shipped for several days), called em again, was given a bunch of lame excuses ('we're giving priority to backorders', 'we've recently fired a lot of employees', and 'we're slow do to a snowstorm'). I was told the correct part would ship immediately. I left a voice mail message on the Manager's phone, which was never returned. I repeatedly emailed since the time of my order requesting information on my items and never received a responce from them. 4 days passed and I received no tracking number confirming the correct item had actually shipped. Their web based order information was showing my orders as complete, yet I had not received one order, had items on back order, and had not received the replacement part for the broken item. I again had to call, as they apparently do not respond to any email, and spoke to the same customer service rep. I was told she found the information where the item was supposed to be replaced but it was never shipped. I finally spoke to someone claiming to be the 'Director of Operations'. I was told the item would be sent that day. I was given the excuse that 'they recently merged a couple of comanies and that they were experiencing growing pains'. I explained that I received broken items, incorrect replacement items, orders not being shipped as promised, but it got me no where. I ended up spending more on the phone calls than the value of the item ordered. No offer of any kind was ever made by the company for the inconvienence. The Volcano 6 cu+ that I ordered from them was supposed to be in stock, but I was notified in a shipment of other items that it was on back order. When it finally arrived it appeared to have been previously installed. Due to the previous experience it wasn't worth another 2 hours on the phone for their $9 HSF.

I recommend spending a little more and go with a company that offers good service.

I bought one before when buliding an athlon 1800 system for a friend. the clip sure is tight. in addition, it also wiggles a bit even after installation. I don't think arctic silver would do any good with this heatsink. however, the temp still in safe range( idle ~38C, full load ~45C). i will say this one is just about average overall.
