VolcanoII owners: is yours rattling?

I just put a VolcanoII in my system. It seems okay, but it makes a raspy, rattling noise. It's faint, but noticeable. Is this normal for this HSF?

Yes mine was. I figured out it was the metal slider which holds the fan on. I put a dab of super glue on one of the corners and that stopped it. I put a very tiny amount on so I could get it off if I needed too.

Um, what metal slider? Maybe I'm missing something, but my fan is held on to the heatsink by screws. Are you talking about the spring-clips holding it to the processor mount?

The part the fan is screwed onto can slide out from the main body. On mine and I guess yours the slide out part was a little loose. On mine it was only loose on the one side so I put a tiny amount of super glue to stop the loose side from moving.

Aha! I took mine apart and I see now. Yep, it's got some play if I move it a bit, so I'm guessing it could be the torque of the fan causing the parts to rub. Looks like I'm off to buy some superglue.

(I know I've bought superglue in the past, repeatedly, but every time a project comes up that needs it, I can't find any. Argh!)

:Q Well I have the same problem and applied some super glue to the slider, which unfortunately didn't help and I still hear this noise at start up... Any ideas???

No probs with mine...you can barely hear it running inside my computer. Fit like a glove on my kk-266.
