so today a friend called me up to come check out his computer. he was just moving out of his old apartment into a new place and he'd had an old dell dimension 4400 laying around in the spare room for quite some time. He was just going to chuck it, however, if I wanted it he would just let me take it home.
he told me that the computer worked perfectly fine until it suddenly started giving this error and wouldn't boot. He turned it on to demonstrate. The computer completed the POST test fine but then gave an NTLDR error.
Perfect! I thought. Likely, it was just a corrupt install. Worst case scenario it needed a new drive, but I probably would have swapped out the 40 gigger anyway. Plus, I have a couple 2ghz + p4 chips kicking around that could use a good motherboard.
anyway when I brought the computer home I kept getting little shocks from the case. Annoyed, I bought it home and put it on my work bench. I realized that if I touch two different parts of the case together I can feel an electric current.
what could happen that could cause a current when I touch two pieces together? is something grounding out? I'm not really sure what to do right other than take the whole thing apart and mount it in another case with a different PSU, assuming I have something that will power a P4
