Free 1st month, No activation

Ran into this on the net... you would only end up paying $9.99 for shipping cost of routher. Which is free.

Free 1st month
Free equipment - Linksys phone adapter, with built-in 3 port router.
No Activation Fees

expires: Feb 28th, 2005

A "routher"? No wonder it's free... J/K

Anyway, also check out SunRocket. The equipment is also free and there has been a promo for 2 FREE Uniden Phones. And they let you pre-pay for a year so you are locking in a rate of $16.59/month.

Check out the features and see which fits you best. Neither company had my area code, so I went with SunRocket and got the closest area code for now b/c they had the best deal. They said they should have most of the area codes available in the next few months.. and switching your number is free so no big deal for now.

I'm on packet8. www.packet8.net

I get unlimited US and Canada calling, voicemail, 3 way calling, caller id, call waiting, call forwarding and it's $19.95 a month...about $20.55 with the federal tax included.

I bought my equipment for $30 on the first month, but got free service the first month as a rebate. It's not too bad... PM me with your email address and I'll refer you if you want.

Does anyone have an idea how sound quality would be on ~380kbps down and ~112kbps up (advertised 512/256 )?

OP thank you sooo much for this post. I've been planning on getting Vonage for about two months but kept delaying because I'm a really bad procrastinator. But now it paid off! Thanks!

I recently canceled my Vonage service since I basically use my cellphone the most. And those mofos charged me $45 to cancel (my avg monthly plan was $14.99)...needless to say I was pissed. Keep the cancellation charges in mind when you decide to test out vonage.

My experience with Vonage was awful.

Signed up in Sept '04. In the 5 months i was with them for a work line, they NEVER ported my number.

Their tech support NEVER calls back (you have to leave them a voicemail, most of the time there is no live support)

They continually overcharged me for calls not placed, their online voicemail checking system OCCASSIONALLY worked.

Seriously. Stay way away from Vonage, there is a reason why they are sold right next to AOL disks and AOL broadband

If you return the router they will refund the cancellation fee... Still I signed up a month ago and submited my number transfer right away. Sent 3 emails asking for help about it and no reply so I finally called and was told T-Mobile needed my accounf # and SS#.. WTF? I think they are blowing smoke. Giving them 2 more weeks and then going to cancel vonage..

Another very satisfied lingo user here for 4 months now. I also have a Broadvoice account which also offers included international calling to 21 other countries. Broadvoice and Lingo are very comparable in terms of features, however in my experience thus far, Lingo's call quality has been superior. Feel free to PM if you have any questions about either carrier.

You know that if you signed up for a different area code, and you mistakenly use this number to call 911, you're hosed because it goes to a station that doesn't service you??

Not sure what codec you would by utilzing but full voice quality telephone service utilzes a 64 KB channel. I've heard a 16KB Cisco VOIP codec and it sounds pretty darn good. So.. you shouldnt have any problems at all.

Of course I know that.

And that's exactly why SunRocket is limiting it's area code coverage to certain areas. I've read alot of VoIP provider reviews were they have called 911 and gotten a different city's emergency service. SunRocket made a corporate decision to only provide area codes for cities that they can get true 911 service.

But it doesn't matter for me or most anyone. All cell phone providers all you to make free 911 calls if you have service for the phone or not. That's why you see cellphone donation centers for battered women's homes. They give them the donated phone just so they will have something on them to call 911.

Does anyone have a clue why all services charge so much more for the business phone line? I have went over the service from home/business and can't really find any differences except on vontage they give you a fax line.(which would only be $5 more for home). Also..can you change how your name appears on caller id when calling from this phone? I am debating on starting a small home based business.
