im lookin at getting it (25 bucks a month and you get unlimited long distance and local)

a LOT cheaper than a typical phone line i hear

i was just wondering who had it and how they like it

have you had any problems with it?

and im guessing i can get rid of the analog phone line all together

Works fine but there are times when the caller on the other end of the phone can't hear me. I think it has to do with my internet connection. Most of the time, you can't even tell you're on VOIP when you're talking on the phone. Sounds very clear.

I like it. I'm a new subscriber. I can use all my phone jacks without a problem. NICE DEAL!

sep: make sure you disconnect from the PSTN before hooking up to your phone jacks to avoid damage to your adapter.

BriGy86: I've been using Vonage for almost 3 years. (back then they didn't give you adapter for free, and it cost more than $25/month)
Service has been great, though they do have small problems from time to time. Also, their tech support is very short staffed.

My advise: try it for a month. If it's ok during the trial, chances are it'll stay that way for another while.

I'd love to do something like vonage, but I have DSL and they do not offer straight DSL, you have to have a phone number at the location...

I think the beta is out for private use (employee's only) that doesn't require Phone Line.

Thanks I did try it once. Since then I've been disconnected. I'll wait :thumbsup:

I had Vonage and went back to my local carrier. The voice quality was great but I had a problem with the provided Linksys Router - it kept dropping data connections even when the phone was not in use. I was unable to FTP large files (>15MB) without a dropped connection and my RDP connections usually dropped after about 5 minutes.

When bypassing the phone router and using my trusty Linksys BEFw11S4, Internet service was fine.

I tried to RMA the router. At first they tried to blame my ISP. Once I convinced them to send another router, they cancelled the service on the current router so I was without phone altogether. In order to restore the service on my defective router, they had to cancel the RMA. Two diffrent support reps promised to create a new RMA but never did.

I cancelled last Sunday. Was given a confirmation and was told someone would be calling me back that evening with final details. It never happened and the service is still up.

Vonage - great features, good voice quality, horrible customer support. If you go with them, pray you do not have a problem. :disgust:

Had it for a year... ditched it for Nuvio. Vonage doesn't have nearly the same number of area codes....Nuvio had all that I needed.

for the record my ISP is comcast, but they seem to be pretty reliable

by "they" i mean Bellsouth, and since they and I are in Kentucky, we're 3 years behind everyone else when it comes to this kind of technology

Has worked flawlessly for me for over a year. I really have no complaints at all. The only time I see problems is when I'm doing a massive File transfer from work to home or the other way around and I get a phone call at the same time. Call seems as if there is a short delay until the FT is done.

Our city has fiber and provides phone/net service, I've liked the features so far and $50 a month for free long distance and high-speed certainly seal the deal. I don't have experience with Vonage, but if I remember right they don't have all the silly taxes on them like with the landline stuff. (Nine bucks for a basic connection, HA!) All I'm saying is I like the service.

Provo, UT. I also forgot to mention they do cable as well. It's a sweet deal. The whole gammit with phone/cable/10mbps internet is $110. I decided to go el cheapo and just get the phone and internet for $50.

Follow-up:

Sure enough, I just had another month billed to my credit card - it seems my Vonage cancellation was never processed even though I had a confirmation number. I was on hold for 20 minutes and had to talk to two separate people to get credit and start the cancellation process again.

Like I said, the customer service is absolutely horrible. You have been warned.
