In case you haven't been checking out the other Thread about about the Voodoo5, there has been a price drop on these cards. Probably because of 3dfx's anouncement that they are getting out of the card making business and back to the chip making business. I thought I would start a new thread that correctly stated the price you can get on these cards.

$177.60 Staples PM with onvia(free shipping)
-$40.00 coupon on $150
=$137.60 with Staples giving free shipping over $50

but then they charged me tax, came to $145.86(Michigan)

Call them at 1800-3Staple. Check to see if the iitem is in stock, say you want to buy ut. Then tell them you want to pricematch and give the URL where the item that you want to pricematch is. they will insist that you include the overnight shipping charge for the item in the price. That is, unless you get a nice CSR.

Wow. Now this is definately worth the price. Even though the cards that compare with that price are about the same performance level. I would have never considered that card for 300 bucks but 100 - 150 is really good...

does anyone know if buy.com will pricematch?

or would compusa or bestbuy pricematch with onvia?

(my staples rep, of course, says that the item is not in stock as usual...)

They are not quite going out of business, just going out of the card business and returning to the 'good ole way' of making chips.

This is a great price for a great card; at normal pricing, I would favor the Radeon 32MB DDR, but at this price, I'd say GO FOR for the V5 5500!!!

Phew! It took me 30 minutes to order this card. The price match went fine but the CRS wanted to charge me 25 bucks for next day shipping! :disgust: I went holy crap, 25 bucks noooo waaay. I argued with her for about 5 minutes stating onvia.com has free shipping. She said its ground and not next day and onvia charges 25 bucks for next day. I said free is free next day or next week I dont care. So I had to get a superviser next which pissed her off. He gave me the same run-a-round bs about there next day and onvia upto 7 day ground service yadda yadda yadda. So I said I live in Texas the same state onvia ships its items from in my region and UPS has next day delivery within the same state for ground service. He still tried to agure with me and I said sir I will get it the next day still with onvia...... and also some of my friends have ordered this and did not have to pay the 25 bucks in overnight thats not right. When he figured I was not going to give up he said fine I wont charge you THIS time for are FREE delivery like he was doing me a favor or something. So he put me on hold to switch me back to the CSR. I could tell she was real pissed now. Would not realy even talk to me. Then I hit her with "oh I need to use my online coupon please also" you could hear a pin drop. hehe All she said was "number". Anyway my total came out to 146.93 after tax. I got this card to replace my 32meg radoen DDR for the time being. I get slow down with it when playing UNREAL based engine games ONLY with all details maxed out and on my V3 3000 it was very fast but only 16bit color with UNREAL engine games. I was told the RADEON was texture swapping, it cant handle 32bit color with max detail. Sorry for the ramblings.....

I'm pumped...last summer when all of the v5 vs gf2 stuff came out, I decided to sit the round out and get a cheap ass viper 2 to hold me off for a while...I have secretly longed after a v5 since then...that sexy bitch will be kicking in my antec case in a week baby!

Ahh good old staples. I was waiting for my order for 2 weeks and repeatedly confirmed with CS reps that item was shipped. Then they finally ran out of excuses and dropped my order without letting me know.
But anyway, V5500 is very good card even for 200 but @ 145 its a steal.

I love it when Staples tries to include overnight shipping when I PM something. Guess what? I live pretty far away from a Staples store so guess how they send things to me? UPS Ground. I just tell them that and they take the shipping off real quick

This looks like a great deal. The V5 5500 is very close to the GF2 with the latest driver release for the V5 (1.06). At this price you can't go wrong.

Hellraven,

Read my reply above about how I got around the shipping charge. If you get a nice CSR you wont have the hard time I did. Just dont give up or give in to there shipping charge. I would use Onvia because you can argue that they have free shipping. Not sure about the other site you mentioned. The price may drop and then it may not be instock as well so i jumped on this one.

I just read it Darker, thanks for telling us your experience.

It kinda boggles me though for two reasons:

1.) Onvia has free shipping
2.) Staples does too on orders $50 or more

Because of those two things I see no reason, like you said, to not insist on getting the free shipping. Hopefully I get a nice CSR when I order in the next day or two
