well, to each his own i guess... i certainly dont have any problems with the slew of games i play nowadays, content for having better image quality compared to that of v5...
btw, just outta curiousity: UT does support 32bit mode, but deus ex and and rune do not? i guess this is one of those oh-so-infamous deus ex syndromes?

16bit, 32bit....what ever bit. I like my radeon alot but only voodoo brand cards give me the performance i want in a glide based game. the V5 has great image quality so does the radeon.... but V5 will always run glide games faster right now. That is the only reason i am getting the card or i would not have bought it. well i kinda want to check out that great 4xfsaa i keep hearing about as well:

Nam, you forgot that ATI has the worst driver support out of the 3 companys.
I agree with everything you said, but until ATI betters their Driver support I refuse to buy any more of their products. I've been screwed twice now by them.

The radeon drivers appear to be better than any of their previous driver efforts on other ATI cards. They also seem to be doing fairly regular updates including interim beta driver updates. Seems like they are finally taking driver support seriously.

Bluemax let me assure you as a fellow canuck i feel your pain. As for everyone else what are the voodoo 5500's drivers like for win2k. Just wondering as i am running win2k and have heard soem rumors about subpar drivers in win2k

you make a shortcut to half-life on your desktop and edit the command line and add -32bpp. mine reads like this
"c:\sierra\half-life\hl.exe -console -32bpp" i have -32bpp setup like this for kingpin, SOF, opposing force, half-life and TFC to name a few. hope that helps

Good news for Canadians! Staples and Future Shop are now both selling the Voodoo5-5500 for only $299 instead of $425-450!

Is the Voodoo 5 AGP 4x, 2x,or 1x or what? I checked on 3dfx's website and it says nothing about which AGP mode it is in.
I would assume its 4x cuz most of the "high end" graphics cards on the market are 4x. I hope its just 1x (although I doubt it isn't) cuz then I can get it and put it in my computer with the worlds crappiest (yet very stable) mobo.

It's 4x...but 4x is backwards compatible w/2x and 1x...so go for it.

One more reason for its compatibility is that even if it's sitting in an AGP slot, it doesn't use AGP texturing (or whatever they call using the AGP slot for going beyond video RAM to system RAM...)
In other words, performance between PCI and AGP is almost nil. Get whichever card is cheaper/available- you won't miss a thing.

I dunno why they put benchmarks on quake 3 or UT. I don't really play those games much. I just want a video card that looks nice playing Counterstrike. Which everyone knows by now, that they have more players online at any given time than Q3 and UT combined.

Thanks for the headsup on how to put Halflife in 32 bit mode. That should be real helpful.
I gotta Voodoo3 3000 now. I bought it one year ago for $100. And now, after a year, I can get a voodoo5 for only $150? That's a pretty hot flaming deal.

So in the last 3 weeks from this forum I've gotten a 40 gig 7200 WD hard drive for $109 and now a Voodoo 5500 AGP card for $145 (should be a nice upgrade from my TNT2 vanilla OEM [Dell] card).

Anyway, both upgrades cost me $250, not too bad

but the item # on the web page is 437226

probably no big deal, but just want to check if others have IM1521211 on thier order status page too?
