Same thing happened to me too...I got really worried, and searched the website for that number...but nada, I don't know why, but it shouldn't be a prob. The description says AGP, so it isn't PCI (although the numbers are similar)...if you call and ask a CSR, post what they said here.

smp="symmetrical multi-processing", such as when NT or Win2K or Linux is running 2 or more programs with a multi-processor motherboard. Certain programs, such as Quake 3 (about the only game--Falcon 4 is the other) and Photoshop, can also divide up their thread execution to take advantage of smp. But I'm not sure what zero is refering to as far as a video card.

I have a quick question for the people who ordered the Voodoo 5 5500 AGP. What type of delivery date did staples give you? I got a delivery date of the 28th of November even though I ordered it on Friday the 17th. I know it's a holiday week but what about the next day shipping?

I also ordered on the 17, and got a deliver date of the 28, kinda odd, but oh well...small price to pay.

I ordered it today and was given an est. delivery date of Jan 29. Also, I did call a CSR about the item numbers just to be safe, and was told the order is correct, the reason for the different item # was they just use a different item # for the warehouse than on the web site. I figured it was something like that.

The damn CSR tried to screw me for 25 bucks nextday. I get home today and guess what? no V5 card. So I called and they tell me the 28th also. Grrr.

Matt stone:
I made a short cut to the Half-life.exe. Then I right clicked on it on my desktop and added -32bpp and then saved it. Now all I do is just use the short cut to launch and its forced to 32bit. Hope that helps but looks like you get it the other way.

See how this is totally subjective? I totally disagree that the Radeon has better 2d then the V5. I own both, and I think they are VERY similiar. The performance is about the same on the Radeon 32MB, they cost almost the same, but the V5 has KILLER FSAA. Subjective call? Yes, but when you see it you'll agree. The FSAA on the Radeon is software like the GF2 and it really isn't that nice. PLUS, the Radeon has compatibility issues with some of the nerwer chipsets like the Ali MaGik 1.

I personally prefer the V5 with the latest drivers.

Here is some info I found regarding v5 and smp:
www.2cpu.com

"Got|Apex?:
Does 3dfx intend to release SMP support in drivers for the V5 series?

Bubba: I?m not sure what you mean here. Symmetric MultiProcessing is a process for the OS, not the video drivers. Of course, SMP will not function in Win98 or Windows Millennium (WinME) as both are still using the consumer kernel and only support single processors. With Widows 2000 Professional, Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2000 Advanced Server and Windows NT4 we have drivers available for download that should function just fine with SMP."

Wow. This bubba character works for 3dfx and he doesn't even know how smp functions with video cards. No wonder there hasn't been any support for smp from 3dfx.

Here's the interview with Bubba

Oh well. Looks like I'll be purchasing an nvidia product for the first time.

Radeon vs. Voodoo5... Are you guys comparing with Radeon 32MB or 64MB?!?

Almost 4 weeks ago I bought a Radeon 32MB DDR for $109.99 (at Best Buy with a 20-percent-off coupon and a $50.00 main-in rebate.) Everyone was raving about Radeon at that time so I bought the card.

Now I can get Voodoo5 5500 64MB for around $140 (with tax.) Should I exchange my Radeon for a Voodoo5?

ktchong, there's 86 posts here. Tell you what, read those, and then come back and I'm sure someone will be glad to wait on you and give you the "Yes/No" to tell you exactly how to spend your money without expending any thought or effort.

I'm not being sarcastic. Really.

ktchong, DO You like the card? if your unhappy with it than ya, maybe exchange it. but as far as if one card is better than the other, by looking at the benchmarks they look about the same, altough i'm sure there are pro's and con's with each.

btw, did you already send in the rebate, because if you removed the UPC i dont think it can be returned.

The radeon 32 meg ddr is still a great board, no one is trying to say that it isn't. But in most tests...w/the new V5 drivers mind you, the V5 ends up equal or ahead of the Radeon 32 meg ddr, GFMX, and 32 meg GF2. The straw that breaks the camel's back is that you can get some kickass FSAA on the V5. I know that w/my Ghz T-Bird, I will be able to play Cstike or TFC w/4x FSAA because the chip is fast enough to keep framerates at around 60, which is hellagood on Half-Life. What games do you play, and what kind of setup do you have on your machine...ie, chip, mobo, ram...

Matt Stone, your post really caught my attention. For those framerates, is that 10X7 @ 16-bit?

Also, has any site done a good review of the new 3dfx drivers? I haven't seen it at the several hardware sites I frequent. That is really frustrating--Sharkyextreme will do multiple 8-page articles on Nvidia's Detonator X.XX drivers (yay, more Quake3 scores), but now everyone just wants to talk about how 3dfx is doomed.

I know...I agree with you completely...I think that one of the main reasons for 3dfx's "downfall" has been all of the hardware sites/mags that go ape-shi+ over GF-anything. And, I'm also sick and tired of Q3 benches...throw me more half-life and ut please, because Q3 ain't that good of a game. I haven't seen any reviews of the V5 w/the new drivers yet...I've been looking, but the best I could find was a review of the 1.03 drivers @ firingsquad...those looked promising, and from what I've seen the 1.04 drivers are only better. I was talking about 16 bit, because I haven't benched anything 32 bit yet...The V5 isn't a bad board, it just makes me mad because when the GF2 began to win in all of the benches...everyone cast the V5 aside as an "inferior board" when there are still people out there playing w/Banshees and V2s...

My board will be here in a few days hopefully, and I will post some tests when I get it...also, if anyone out there has gotten the board already, start posting some benches...we need the info. Alrighy, it's counterstike time, b back later.

Well, I know this should probably go in BRAG & MOAN, but I got my card today and I was given a Nov. 28 date too. You know the CSR I talked to didn't even try to pull that next day shipping stuff, but its been advised in other threads to just try again with another CSR. I wonder where the Voodoo5's will bottom out considering that the Voodoo4's are going for $110 on pricewatch?

Just ordered mine - 28th is the date, but I am sure it will be here earlier. I didn't get hassled about next day shipping either. I talked to a guy names Chris, he was pretty good.

Squisher, that why I jumped on this deal now, even though by waiting the card might drop in price some more, if it goes below $150 the $40 coupon is no good anyway. And at this price or even sub $150 I think there is a chance it will be sold out fairly quick.

Also, mine says processing still, but I had called this afternoon and was told that it shipped, I'm in PA too, so I'm hoping it will be here tomorrow, otherwise it probably won't arrive until Monday because of the 4 day holiday, no big though.

And regarding the staples CSR, I had a very nice women, no problem with the pricematch or coupon, and no hassle about the overnight shipping. It was my first time shopping with them (internet) so they will be getting more of my business this Holiday season.
