My 2ghz Core 2 and 8400GS lappy cost exactly twice as much.. seems like a good deal to me.. Bros 8600GT in his lappy is very capable and will handle CoD 4 at native res (1440x900) with medium high settings.

Be warned the 8400GS will only do 800x600 all low settings comfortably. Nowhere near the native res of the panel and not anything better than low. I play 800x600 with specular maps. Thats about the only feature I can enable. If you game, consider the 8400 as no better than integrated.

FYI this is warm at best since there have been deals in the past few months where for ~$750 after taxes and shipping you could get one of these with upgraded procs and screens.

This deal is around since 4/13, and was supposed to expire yesterday. Strange it has not been posted sooner. Regarding a gaming machine though wouldn't that require a better processor (,e.g. T8100 (+$180))?

my girlfriend bought a similiar one with the 8600m GT. It's very impressive. Although she only plays WoW with it, she plays it maxed out with 40+ fps (17" 1440x900).

8400Gs overclocks very well: (just watch your heat) my dell lappy's 8400M GS stably clocks within 2d/3d/3d performance mode anywhere between:

Core: 101 - 600 mhz
Shader: 190 - 1200 mhz
Memory: 84 - 732 mhz

Stock on that card in performance 3D is 400 core / 800 shader / 500 memory.

I would say the vast majority of performance problems you're going to have in games are going to be more GPU-limited rather than CPU.

i asked my wife if her company could beat or better this deal and i scored an inspiron 15.4 widescreen, core2duo t7500 2.2 800fsb cpu, 2gigs of 667 ddr2 memory, 8600mgt 256mb graphics, 250 gighd, xp home or pro the spreadsheet is at work. cd/dvd +-rw optical drive, intel pro wireless, and the usual bloatware I'm sure. jet black in color for 629.00 brandnew in the box.

i think i made out like a bandit. thanks for the hot deal posting because i was really not looking for a laptop but this was too good to pass up.

i went to the dell site and tried to build this and you cant get this cpu or gpu in an inspiron only the xps more expensive line has an equal but not identical build and forget about getting one with xp as they want to shove vista down our throats.

yes it does. it is the 1520 inspiron flavor lappy. not sure yet what res the camera is. never really had a use for one but it is a nice option i guess.
