I find it ironic that many of the people in here saying those who refuse to accept gay marriage are bigots and hate gays.. but will turn around and BASH Christians like they should have no rights whatsoever.. Some of those acusing others of hate in this thread should practice what they preach.

First off, can you cite a specific example where someone said Christians should have no rights whatsoever?

Second, there's a difference between bashing someone for something they choose and for bashing something they can't choose.

I hope you don't mean me. I think as many as 10% of the people opposed to gay marriage do so for rational reasons, not related to hate and/or loathing.

The proposed amendments in Mississippi, Montana and Oregon refer only to marriage. Those in Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma and Utah would ban civil unions as well, and those extra provisions have generated extra controversy.

Recent polls showed support for the amendments at 76 percent in Oklahoma and Kentucky, 65 percent in Arkansas, 60 percent or more in Michigan, 59 percent in Montana and 57 percent in Ohio.

The message is clear: the majority of people in those states hate gays. They see them as freaks to be relegated to second-class citizens. Congratulations on perpetuating bigotry in our great nation! /sarcasm. :|

This makes a mockery of civil rights.

Do they not have a right to have an opinion? so this will let the unspoken majority have a voice. You can't force people to love others especially others that undermine thier value system. This is not going away and people will fight for what they believe in on both sides. Just like some don't like religion rammed down their throat others don't want the gay agenda down theirs.

ick that sounds sick. sorry

Flame on...

puns are cheap in this thread

Oh I'll be voting Pro family in KY :lips:

...and some people are just full of it, spouting crap like this. I've seen tons of mentions of people bashing christians, but have yet to see it occur in a thread. Anybody else notice this?

The role of the government in this country is not to protect the rights of the minority. Where do people keep getting this idea? It's to protect the rights of everybody.

It comes from the concept of the Bill of Rights. Each person has certain rights that can't be taken away even through a a majority vote. For example, you have the right to voice your opinion as stated in the Bill of Rights even if 51% of the country thinks you don't.

I've seen people bash christians, but I haven't seen any bash "Christians like they should have no rights ". If you think being gay is a sin, fine. And you ant to tell them so, that's fine too. That's your right. Its your desire to impose your religion on others, leading to an uneven system of rights that warrants arguement and is not right. Religion was also used as a justification against interracial marriage too. It was wrong then and its wrong now.

There is a New Bill Of Rights written by the FLL Club.

The name of the new Bill of Rights is completely wrong along with the rest of the new Documents they have drawn up like the Patriotic Act should be called the Un-Patriotic Act.

It old Bill of Rights was re-written and is technically the NO Bill Of Rights unless you are firmly in the Religious Radical Right Wing and happy about discriminating against others such as Gays.

Marriage as it stands in most states is a union between a man and a woman. It has been that way for over 2,000 years. What makes you think you can change that without opposition?

It was the right approach at the dawn of civilization and it is the right approach now.

This has to do with what is right as much as what a person believes, whether they believe in their religion or whether they are agnostic. Everyone has their own beliefs. If I choose to believe that marriage is a union between a man and a woman I have that right. My beliefs are protected under the constitution of the United States.

Just because someone claims to be Gay or Lesbian it does not give them a special right to disrepect my beliefs. Lets put it to a National Vote and be done with it. You feel free to propose some ammendment making gay marriage protected under the law and we will vote on it.

Screw them and all government recognized personal unions.

As far as the government is concerned, we should all be individuals and equal.

Ahhhh, see that is where the members of the FLL Club push to destroy what was once a Great Nation.

A Nation where as Dr Martin Luther King said "Where All Men Are Equal".

We may have overcome that discrimation against African Americans but now we have a new discrimination brought on by the Radical Religious whackos posing a Neo-Conservatives that I once used to refer to with a different "N" word but use FLL Club (Fearless Liar Lemmings).

Edit: Oh and the Title should be changed to reflect accuracy.

It is only members of the FLL Club that will be voting to discriminate and hate Gays.

You would be hard pressed to find many members of the Democract Party vote for the Ammendments even if they are Catholics. They may be Catholics but they are not Racists and Hypocrits.

They are Americans above all else and I have faith in that.

Well, let's see... there are approximately 293,027,571 people in this country. Of that number, 293,027,571 will have the right to get married... so, I'd say every American citizen.
I guess I miss the whole part about banning gay marraige (or whatever the hell name you want to put on it).

?

And if gay marriage is allowed, how many of those people lose the right to marry? Thats what this is about right? protecting rights as you say. If you ban gay marriage, how does that some how protect regular marriages?

Yes, yes it does. You can feel free to believe anything you want, but if we really are a free country, your beliefs alone are not enough to stop anyone from doing anything. Personally I find your particular beliefs HIGHLY offensive, and you and your ilk posting your fascist crap represents the most disrespectful thing to MY beliefs I encounter during the average day.

But you know what? Freedom of speech protects you even if I disagree with what you are saying, just as it should. That's how freedom works. It's not just freedom for those beliefs you approve of, it's freedom for ALL beliefs unless they interfere with the freedoms of others. Now as far as I'm aware, you have no freedom from having your beliefs disrespected, so feel free to believe whatever you want, and I'll feel free to tell you to shove those beliefs up your ass, because I don't care what you think.

THAT'S freedom...don't like it, feel "free" to leave.

Oh, right, I don't hate gay people, I just don't think they should have the same rights I do. Makes perfect sense to me!

That is where you, and many others, are incorrect. Homosexuals have every right that heterosexuals do. They can get married in the same way that you and I can get married. Now, they cannot "marry" someone of the same sex, but neither can you or I. This is not a civil rights issue, period.

You're right that the issue is same sex marriage, but you're completely wrong that gender discrimination in legal contracts such as marriage is not a civil rights issue.

Here in KY we've put a nice wording around it..

"protect marriage between one man and one women"

Brilliant! I agree with that and will vote for it.

Looks like they made a mistake with the "one" if they want truly Bible-based marriage, which was polygynous.

Well its what we're voting on. An right now there is about 78% support.

Thank goodness we live in a society where majority rules and we get to vote.

Except you don't. You live in a society protected by a Constitution and a Bill of rights, the purpose of which is to protect individuals from the tyranny of the majority.

IMO Christians should have the same rights as any American Citizen who is Homosexual.

Can you show some example, then? I've read that statement far more times than I've read any Christian-bashing. The only thing I've seen even close is against drpootums, who just needs to get out a little more.
