PIA accepts many different major brand gift cards, to further provide anonymous purchase of the service.

Also, I jump on and off PIA all day depending on what I'm doing, my bank doesn't care, my email providers don't care, every website I visit doesn't care (seems Craigslist does, just found out LOL)

You know who cares, media providers. Netflix, VUDU, etc....these guys are blocking VPN or "proxy" services now.

Kudo's to PIA to sticking to their guns and providing real VPN protection by not logging activities (or wiping logs regularly), allowing anonymous purchase for service, and facilitating a more free and open Internet.

Just note it says PIA was still having issues. It's known that port forwarding exposes your IP. Just Google, "VPN port forwarding exposes your IP."

Sending output to /dev/null (once or twice) is a good practice. I use NordVPN and they said they have setup their servers to immediately send to /dev/null when an output is generated, I bought into that, and since it is based in Panama outside Five Eyes jurisdictions is satisfying enough to me. What can we expect more from a VPN? Plus, most probably you won't have issues using such VPNs for Torrenting as the purpose of hiding IP gets done. I don't know about Port Forwarding as I didn't had to setup one and I get the speed I want. IPv6 and DNS leak issues are long since resolved by VPN providers. However, the issue still remains for the overall privacy

I would recommend you ExpressVPN if you are willing to spend around $10 a month. But if you want to go below this budget then I would say NordVPN, then PIA, both are under $6. Both, Nord and PIA, provide multiple gateways like the TOR.

I do some torrenting and have decided I'm finally going to use a VPN starting as soon as possible. I'm looking for recommendations of a pay VPN service, under $10 per month, if possible. I'll probably do a one or three month signup at first, to try the service.

Never having used a VPN, several things aren't clear to me:

-- Can a service be had that at that price that is capable of giving speeds saturating a cable connection of 60 Mbps or 120 Mbps?

-- Can the VPN tunnel(s) be set up on my hardware router/firewall (Ubiquiti Edgerouter Lite), or must they use a software client? I'll be checking the Ubiquiti forums also about this.

-- Do you recommend tunneling all of your traffic through the VPN, or only traffic where you're concerned about maintaining anonymity?

Seems the speed would dictate whether or not you can tunnel all internet traffic. I'm not overly concerned about achieving full saturation of the link when torrenting, but it would affect whether I want typical web browsing or, say, email retrieval to go through the VPN.

Under $10 a month, you might get pretty much anything.

Also, speed usually isn't an issue, unless the servers are really distant.

Again, pretty much anything can be routed through your vpn and some even have split tunneling feature to facilitate that. i'd recommend keeping it neat if you're gaming because the fewer elements between you and your gaming server, the better. I know a couple that do, but you can always google which ones provide tunneling. Also, some might not work with netflix and for some, you might have to contact their support to get it work (there are usually workaround varying provider to provider).

ExpressVPN would have been my recommendation. I've used PIA, Torguard and now Express. I've had the best experience with Express. I still have a Torguard account that I use to watch American Netflix on our HTPC, but the rest of our computers and phones are run through ExpressVPN.

The VPNs are always active. No reason not to always have them on in my experience as they do not degrade speeds. The only time I disable them is if I am doing online banking or something similar where the VPN might trigger a security lock.

Personally I'd just the use the opensource openvpn client from openvpn.net to establish your connections instead of any of the proprietary stuff the VPN providers push.

I'm using Windscribe. I find it to work well and is reliable. I've had a few issues early on. I sent a support request and was assisted by the owner within a day or so of my request. I'm not going to include a referral link, as I think that lessens the sincerity of my endorsement. Just Google Windscribe. I found a deal at Christmas time for a whole year for $12. That's $1 a month! Now, that is probably not the normal deal, but I would sign up with them even if the costs were greater.

you get away with a lot of inflation when your whole market is driven by hysteria. VPN's offer privacy at the expense of anonymity so they aren't ideal in all situations.

Windscribe or PIA, I used both a lot and I am happy with both of them. As a million people mentioned here, speed really isn't an issue, usually, VPN providers handle that without a doubt. When it comes to Security and Privacy it might be another case. You would probably need to go for a logless (If there are any left) provider.

How do VPNs work on a home network with lots of devices? I have one specific computer that does 99% of my downloading. That's the only one that I really want to be using a VPN connection. All my other laptops, phones, tablets, etc have no need for it. I've also heard that some allow a certain number of devices.

Do I have to install a software client on the computer and make sure it runs every time the machine reboots? Do I just change some networking settings to reroute traffic via whatever Torrent program I use? Just starting to research this so wanted to get some of the basics down.

It's just a client you run on your computer. You could do a router implementation, but then everything will use the VPN and you really don't want that.

I have used a couple of different paid VPN services for torrents. If you want high bandwidth you have to pay. Currently I use nordvpn which I find to be excellent. The client they provide is fully featured and the bandwidth is decent. I set the vpn etc. up on a hyper V VM so it's sand boxed. One thing you want to watch out for is DNS leaks. Happy trails.

Hmm, they didn't include IPVanish. That's who I'm using and I haven't had any problems except when the program would get in a state where it got disconnected and got stuck trying to reconnect and hung. Just had to stop and start it again and it'd start working. Only happened a couple times.

using nord also. sometimes after joining and using alot of data it will kick me from a server or a server will say i must choose another because it is updating but ive been using it for more than a year and going good.
