I pay $40/year through privateinternetaccess.com.

I use it at coffee shops a lot.

You can get TOR or PIA for about $30/year during their semi-regular sales.

Check slickdeals.net for recent sales.

Btw, I have PIA and love it.

I use vpn.ac. They are one of the best. Speeds are good too.

The support staff is pretty kick ass to. Here's a convo I had when bitcoin fluxed and I owed them .03 cents.

Hi

Below the details we got from Bitpay:

Paid Amount: 0.053742 BTC
Invoice Amount: 0.053828 BTC

The price on the invoice was adjusted by Bitpay on our request from 15.60 USD to 15.57 USD to reflect the actual amount paid. There was probably some fee to cause the difference.

> Do I owe any more on the balance for my account?

yes, 3 cents. If we were a bank, we'd probably even apply interest on those 3 cents. But hey, we are not a bank so we obviously don't care. It's all good

Have a great weekend!

Regards

Another vote for PIA.

(I think for a while they were accepting unused gift cards as a form of payment, which I found rather neat, but I don't see that option anymore.)

Sorry to be a bit off-topic, but do I need a VPN service? I have a bunch of machines and devices at home that the family uses. I have a work laptop too but that has a mandatory work-VPN. Do I need a separate one for the personal stuff?

To be on the safe side I'd just rent a VPS somewhere outside the country and setup my own VPN tunnel. VPN services are a pretty big target to the government given their purpose is for people to get privacy, and the government does not like when people have privacy. Some corrupt companies might accept offers from the government to put a spy program in, or some may just be hacked by the government to put one in. Not saying it happens, but it could. At least with a VPS/dedicated box that you have root access to you have a more control and visibility over things.

Think I pay around $22 every three months for VPN.AC. I had PIA and their client is shit. VPN.AC is a stand along client and doesn't use Ruby.exe that thrashes on the hard drive.

I should mention there is a wealth of ports TCP/UDP and encryption schemes with VPN.AC.

Does it allow you to only vpn your browser or any other application VPN.AC instead of your whole connection? I know PIA doesn't

I use PIA. $40 a year, lots of countries to choose from, five simultaneous VPN connections, it's fast enough that I don't notice a difference. I haven't seen a better offer.

They also offer several access methods, you don't have to use their client. Plain OpenVPN client, L2TP/IPsec client, whatever suits you. Since you get multiple connections you can also create several VPN connections and put HTTP or SOCKS proxy servers in front of them. Then configure apps to use said proxy, and you get per-application VPN (and different apps to different countries if you like).

I use BTGuard but they're not cheap - about $10/month. Plus I tend to get disconnected on average every day or two. Sometimes more. But if you're worried about getting DMCA notices, they at least don't rat you out. I used to use another service and they would roll over with just an email from someone complaining.

I pay $55/yr for a VPS, which runs my DNS server, web server, teamspeak server, etc, etc, etc (whatever I want) AND my VPN server.
