i called my local BB, and they had both laptops, open box, but they won't discount it past 712 and 950 respectively.

To anyone that got a 180b5: did yours have a plastic cover/sticker type thing on the laptop's lid? Is it removable or is it permanent? I can't tell It would be kind of neat if it was permanent.

I only found the 740 at my local best buys, they are BRAND NEW though, and $711 each... But I don't think it's worth it...

I called a few BB in south florida. Got hung up on by one, another 2 it just rang and rang, and 2 others I actually got thru to someone but of course neither had the 170 or 180 models. But they were happy to offer the 200 for a good bit more $$.

Without the $200 MIR this is warm but not hot, imo. Sucks they don't have another rebate posted (yet).

That is greedy, I see you are in Silicon Valley CA so anyone in that area call your local BB and see if they have any available.

Greedy? I think not, just trying to prevent the AT effect at a local store where I may send some friends tonight. Anyway, I am on the east coast working this week so try again... The bay area is the LAST place to have any hot deals since 90% of AT'ers live there anyway! hehehe

Does anyone have a copy of the original rebate form for the 180B5. I think they changed the date on the one on the website now. I really can use the old ones or atleast what the original experation date was.

Ya, that's expired... I think the original form had different dates...

Can someone please scan and email the original rebate form. According to my notes the original for was supposed to expire on 4-26-03 obviosly they change it and really I need the original from. Or atleast would someone that has it tell methe original starting and ending dates "offers date" "postmark date" and Best Buy Rebate # . Thank you very much I really appreciate it.

You're right. I filled it out and sent it, but it definitely did have 2/05 to 4/26 on it, with postmark by 5/26/03. i'd send you guys a copy, but i don't have a scanner and my copy if not too readable.

Got the Laptop, but since it was an open box and it didnt have a power supply, I can't really use it - They looked around but weren't able to find it, told me to call 1888 best buy , who in turn said i'll have to buy it :frown: b/c it was an open box hence they can't do anything about missing stuff. Anyways just wanted to ask your opinion about the open box / missing components policy??. I'm also debating the 3 yr warranty they added to it. Btw could anyone that has the older rebate PM it to me too

I was wondering if the rebate is only for the online purchases or would there be anyway that it can be applied to an instore purchase, I tried to buy one but it wouldn't go thru, i keep getting the cannot connect page or something and day after, it was taken off the site.

Also, are you guys sure its 10%? I called customer service about the policy and i was told it varies depends on the condition of the item and it probably depended on the store manager.

If you purchase the 3 year warranty, the manager can write a note stating that you need a battery or power supply. Then you get one for free in a month.

I just purchased the 180 B5 a couple of days ago, a display model. It happened to be missing both and they told me about the warranty. Then luckily for me they found both in the back.

oh yeah, and I managed to argue the price down to $750 .. heh

BB rebates specifically state that online rebates are not valid for in store purchases. I've known people who got denied and were sent a letter telling them so.

My 170B4 keeps locking up, as I posted in an earlier message here. I've installed SP1, new drivers, etc. to no avail.

I have 3 options as I see it..

1) Return it for my money back (still within 14-day return policy)

2) Return it and ask that they swap it out with a working one

3) Send it in for warranty work already

Any thoughts on how I should proceed?

locking up how? What are you doing when it locks up? Don't say "normal use", be specific. Are you browsing the web? Are you using MS Works? Are you watching a DVD? If so, what software program to view the DVD, powerdvd? Windows Media Player??? (you see my point...)

Answer these questions and maybe we can help you decide what to do...
