The locking occurs when I try and install a program, mainly. Doesn't always happen, but intermittently.

Installing (not downloading) Critical Updates seems to freeze the computer. It happened about 5-6 times yesterday.
I tried to install VB6 Enterprise yesterday, froze twice.
I tried double-clicking on the Time to set it from the taskbar, it froze.
I tried to install WinRAR, froze twice.

Sometimes it freezes by me just trying to navigate through the Start Programs menu.

Sometimes it freezes trying to explore a directory, both on the HD and on the CROM.

I installed the OS from the recovery CD using the quick format option. Office XP and VB6 Enterprise are installed and I uninstalled MS Works. WinRAR is installed now, too.

I managed to watch a VCD using PowerDVD with no problems, and also managed to burn one using Nero (installed it successfully) successfully.

I managed to install Sisoft Sandra Pro and run a looping system Burn-In process 10 times last night successfully. Then, after I tried to alter the Time setting, it froze.

As far as I know, there is nothing funky as far as software installed.

I managed to get it frozen just now by turning it on, clicking some folders in explorer, and then leaving it alone for a while. Came back, explored the CDROM (with driver disk inside) a couple of times, and now it's frozen. It must have been on for about 30 minutes. Maybe heat is a problem, but I'm not sure which component is overheating.

Hmmmmm, very interesting... Well, the problem is either VB6 Ent. or your laptop. If you have time, reformat and install fresh from the CD again, and use it for a while... taskbar, change time, programs menu, etc...

Then, install office XP, do the same, use it for a few hours.

Then, install VB6 enterprise, do the same...

If it starts freezing after VB6, you have your answer. If it freezes before you install office XP then the laptop is faulty... maybe the fan is busted and it's overheating? Can you hear the fan going?

I heard they're available again online and u can order through the kiosk in store for delivery and recieve at the same price of 948.99. I have a copy of the original rebate with the date of 2/05/2003 to 04/26/2003, if i order it today I wonder if that's work since that rebate is still valid.

The UPC code contains the serial # of the unit. I think they track the rebates by serial also.

I picked up the 200A5 which is the P4 2.0M 15" widescreen for $1200 after rebates. Also paid for the $250 3 year warranty. Mine is made in Taiwan and not Korea.[/quote]

==============================================================

How you can get the 200A5 for $1200? I want to buy one. Show me your smart way. Thank

they withdrawed the original rebate. So if you order today, you'll have to prepare for fight for it.

inspite of my hatred of beastbuy i got an open box B5 from them for $750+tax today in B&M. online "on order" orders will 99% be cancelled. ***the original rebate form with validity till April is now on FW thread**** not sure if they will honor it.... but make sure u remove url while printing it and give it a try.

my take on B5 so far: noisy CPU fan runs non stop blowing out cold air!, LCD not impressive, the warranty is shaky because vpr may fold up any time and pathetic speakers. not tried wireless or any games so far. plus is its thin and light weight with magenisium LCD lid.

these laptops aren't bad deals, but i'm waiting for better ones at this price, since VPR Matrix is a generic BB brand. i missed the Dell 4150 for $650

My 180B5 is not noisy at all... I can barely tell that it's on. The speakers are incredibly bad though on mine, too.

hmm if you do some research, This VPR is built by Samsung's sub company...

How many Laptops you been through? I been through IBM, Sony and Toshiba. This VPR is a great deal at this price. And knowing it is made with alot of good parts: Intel Mobo and Samsung parts. I am very happy with it.

I never use laptop speakers anyway, headphones do a much better job then any built in speakers.

i dont see how bestbuy.com can deny the rebate no matter where u printed it from
it says on the form valid from 2/5 to 4/26
its not like u did something wrong, immoral, illegal or even questionable
if they chose not to advertise the rebate, i think they are jerks but the rebate still exists
im thinking of buying the 180b5 pal2
i think ill use amex or a card with some support

O.K......heres my story.

Immediately after seeing this posted I ordered one (180B5) online for instore pickup (1:30 a.m, 2/5). I knew that the store I was ordering from did not have any as I had already called and was told they did not. The order showed the price as $1328.xx and the confirmation email showed it adjusted to $949.xx. On 2/5 (next afternoon) I received the email saying sorry we are OOS at the store where you requested pickup......I knew I would get this. It says to call customer service and we will go over your options with you.

So I call customer service on 2/5. I tell the honey that I odered the notebook for store pickup and got OOS email. She says let me check this for you. She then says I have 2 options, I can find you one at another store or we can ship you one.
I say..."you can ship me one...at what price??".
She says "we will charge you $1328.xx, but after the charge goes through we will credit you back the difference on your original order" ($1328.xx - $949.xx).
I say "So in the end I will only pay $949.xx + tax?".
She says "yes!"......"but wait a minute"...now my heart sinks..."there is a $200 rebate available on this item and you will be eligible as we are only modifying your original online order which falls within the appropriate dates".
I say "cool!".
She then tells me to make sure that I print out the rebate immediately as these offers tend to "change, and this is a clearance item'.

So, for the last three days my online order @ BestBuy.com shows that I have an In Process order for $1328.xx +tax. I have checked every day to see if/when it was cancelled. Today I check...it is still In Process and on order, but now my total is $999.xx + tax. So, if I actually get one of these, I am still gonna call back and ask for the price to be reduced to $949.xx and I ordered on 2/5 so even the new rebate form shows that I am valid for the rebate!!!

We will see! Thanks for this post!!

i would suggest resetting the date on your pc to feb 06 and removing the url before printing out the rebate form. why give them a chance to reject the rebate?

i compared both 910us & B5 side-by-side now and B5, B5 is definitely brighter and better. the battery life on B5 might go upto 2:45 hrs, which isn't bad. and the keyboard's are good on both. trackpads are similar, 910 has bigger buttons & surface area.

i think i find the always on fan a bit irritating. also i am used to complete silence from 910us, its fan rarely turns on. i am trying for XP SP1 and to find the intel speedstep applet to maybe get reduced noise on B5.

size wise the 910 measured 1.78" (nowhere near 1.5" as advertized) and B5 1.3" in thickness (both at max thickness point). B5 is really really thin!

the video performance while watching divx on B5 is pathetic.... its like ghosting (i don't know if this is the correct term or not)... 910 runs like a charm. this is after all the driver installation (ATI driver from vpr website crashes, one on CD works fine). any suggestions?

this is infact a mod of Samsung P10 laptop according some posts i read. there's also a big review of this laptop, google search "180-B5". it has nice pics and good info. some more threads about vpr laptop, google search "vpr matrix forums"

Can you purchase a Mobility Radeon 7500 chip with 64 mb memory and "just" pop it in? How about a faster Mobile P4 in the future?

As with most laptops, onboard graphics cannot be upgraded... CPU I dunno, but I doubt it can be upgraded either...

Same here, and another guy I work with had the exact same thing happen....hopefully it works out for us The guy I work with was talking to a CSR at 888-bestbuy, and she told him there are a bunch in stock in the warehouse, so we should get them.

FYI for anyone in the Cleveland Ohio area:

The Mayfield BB has a 180 model, no power supply, disk etc for, I think $800 or so. Don't really remember as I asked what it would be with the 3 year service, and they quoted me $1000.00

The BB at Brookpark and Ridge Road has the 170 model, no power supply, disks etc for $715.00. They said the 3 year coverage would be $250.00.

I thought about getting one, but the end cost with the extended warranty was a little too high for me. No real need for a laptop right now.

Hope someone finds this helpful.
