I used the Kenneth Cole laptop case that I got from the Altima Test Drive deal way back LOL.

But had to buy a Case Logic Computer Shuttle NCLE2 (like a protective pouch) for it because the one that came with the KC will only fit a smaller laptop...

Anyone know of a site with drivers for the 170B4? Mine was locking up after about 20 mins of usage. I wonder if it's a driver or heat problem?

The VPRmatrix.com website only has the drivers I already have.

basically if the store feels it can sell the laptop on its own then it wil cancel the online order inspite of being in stock... they earn more by selling in B&M... like there won't be this $200 in-store.

that's just not true. best buy stores don't have time to turn away assured revenue. that's just ridiculous. profit on one laptop is smaller than you might expect and your assertation that there are a bunch of csr's sitting there scheming to cancel orders is laughable. furthermore rebates are fulfilled by a 3rd party fulfillment co and it does not affect the individual store's revenue. and even furthermore best buy stores are encouraged to fill .com orders.

i can tell you for sure that my best buy store has not had either of these models for about 3 weeks - which would make filling an order rather difficult. right now vpr is in between product lines. we just got new emachines and sonys too. its product cycle turn right now.

but what do i know.... the guy with one post is an expert....

dew.

Here's the s*it I got from Beastbuy today,

"Thank you for shopping at BestBuy.com.

One or more of the items that you've recently ordered have cancelled.
Please take a moment to contact our Customer Care representatives by
replying to this e-mail or by calling us toll-free at 1-888-BEST BUY
(1-888-237-8289) for further assistance.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. The details of your
order are below."

Would someone with 1942 POSTS and REGISTERED since 2000 care to explain this? I knew this was coming from my previous expereince with beastbuy! The MF's cancel anything they want to even if its in stock at store. (I called the store and they indeed have it in stock, just no rebates.)

So the score now is 7 cancellation out of 8 orders. I had a digital GC applied which they will now not return to me, happened in past also. To make things worse the evil beasts will not remove the hold on my credit card for weeks from now :|

I swear I will NEVER shop with worstbuy again.

you are right i guess. they are out to get you.

there - i explained it for you.

dew.

Yeah right, I think you mixed up those hard drive scores with something else.
Try more around 300-700 tops. The CPU and memory scores are more realistic.

2ghz
384 pc 2100
40gb 5400rpm hd
64mb Radeon 9000

3D Mark 6470

PC Mark
CPU 4846
Memory 4463
HDD 558

Those are great scores for a laptop and its also as good as it gets.

My 170B4 Gets:

3D Mark 3300

PC Mark
CPU 4135
Memory 4201
HDD 325

Does 3D mark say your FSB is 0 for your 170B4 tests?

Now get this, when the *general manager* saw the price on the system, he said he could not sell it for any lower than that price.

Unfortunately I didn't have time to argue. But I did get his name and will be placing a call to Corporate to complain.

I would like to have that number also. I need to report the sales person that I had to deal with. He was rude and I felt racist to me and I don't go calling race at everything. Before I could even ask him about the laptop he told me no when I said you don't know what I want he said what ever it is it will still be no. He then asked me what do I do for a living and where I lived when I told him he said for me to go back to where i came from. I want to report his arse.

Make sure you get his name. Put it in writing, be factual, and threaten legal action. That should shake them up.

no, he lied to you, unfortunately. store policy is that anything openboxed will be reduced 10% from the lowest price offered. I walked out paying 800 for mine, plus the warranty.

For those of you who have one, in the system properties, does it say 1.18 GHz underneath Mobile CPU 1.80GHz? I wonder what/why that is...?

Any help appreciated, thanks.

That is because of Intel's Speed Step technology. The Mobile P4 will slow itself down to conserve battery. The speed range is 1.18G to 1.8G.

you need to go to the ATI website and update the video driver. you want the one that is like 6.00.xx.xx.xxxx label you would get a lockup most likely playing a DVD.

you go to screen savers and at the bottom it says power. depending on settings and if the power cord is plugged in there is a 2 step in clock frequency. 1.18 and 1.79. Also it depends on how much processing is needed before it automaticly kicks up the processor speed.

It depends on how long you are going to keep the laptop for. I ALWAYS upgrade my computer technology every 6-12 months so the extended warranty is worthless...

In the words of Homer Simpsons "Extended warranty? How can I lose!"

Would it be worthless in 9 months time when your battery dies and you can't buy a replacement because they don't make them anymore and BB have none in stock? It's the battery issue more than anything that puts me off.

All the rebates are expired. They expired on Feb 1 for the 170B4 and on Feb 6 for the 180B5. I would have bought the 170B4 (only one I could find in stock in my area) for $711- $100 = $611 + tax.
