I doubt they would have been able to hit Air Force One. Those Air Force pilots are pretty damn good... You don't think they'd be able to take evasive action if some plane got too close to them? Even if AF1 is a 747? An Air Force pilot is gonna be better than any beloved patriot that was trained at some place in Florida or by training manuals and videos.

<< AF-1 normally does not fly with a fighter escort. It did yesterday after the attacks. If they were planning on hitting it and timing was on their side, there would have been no escort at the time. >>

It does normally fly with escorts, just not 200 yards off the wing. CNN's White House reported said it's nothing unusual to see fighters taking off or landing shortly before or after a flight on AF1. Having a F16 so close to the wing is "extraordinary".

Hmmm...JUST MAYBE the Secret Service KNEW what they were doing when they moved the President around yesterday! But of course no one thought that yesterday! Yesterday, Bush was a coward for not coming home as soon as he got wind of all this. Geez...we should trust that the experts know what they're doing.

Edit: the most important intell building is not the Pentagon, but rather the CIA in VA.

I'm at work, no TV, radio. What specifically is the source of this information? Not which station, I'm asking if they found this on a piece of paper, an intercepted communication, etc.

I'm right here my profoundly educated friend.

As was noted above, a commercial 757 airplane was going to ram into AF1 with a squadron of armed military jets surrounding it? give me a break.
>>

AF-1 doesnt always have an escort.

Anyone ever heard of a thing called radar? You know, the thing that warns you when big lumbering commercial aircraft are miles away so that they can be shot down before they even get in sight of AF1 or the white house.

And please don't tell me the pentagon got hit. Fighters were scrambled after that so that the President was perfectly safe in the white house or on AF1.

Partisans called Bush a coward. It's a shame some reduce themselves to such squabbling in light of tragedy for political gain.

afaik, after a small private plane crashed into the Whitehouse in 96(date?) the Whitehouse installed surface-to-air missiles so the plane that hit the Pentagon would have had a greater chance of hitting its target because there was a greater chance of it being shot down if it went for the Whitehouse. The Pentagon does not officially have surface-to-air missiles.

No, but according to you he should have been standing on the white house lawn blowing sunshine up our asses.

I didn't even expect him to return to Washington last night. I thought that they would move him to a bunker somewhere, and move Congress to a different bunker. No one was really sure what would happen, so it was surprising that they did move him back. I guess they thought that they had reasonable security measures in place.

In other news, CEO of GE says he'll donate $10 million to the families and victims. Cisco is donating $4 million.

"Now where are the a-holes that basically called Bush a chickensh!t for not going to Washington right away?

Yeah where is that punk, Snow at?

My take on it is..

Plan 1 was to strike the whitehouse with the president in it

Plan 2 was to strike Air Force 1 as the president was boarding

They went to the white house and saw that Air Force 1 wasn't there. so the president was not there.

Institute Plan 3 The Pentagon.

Destroying the white house and killing the president would have been ideal because symbolically it would devastate us. The place has been home to the president and is an icon for what America stands for. Killing any country's leader would be devastating.

Well they couldn't get at the president, so what else to hit?? The pentagon. If the Pentagon was the first target, it would not have flown over the White House first and also more research would have been done on which part to it....They missed the CIA , Secretary of Defense, and any of the numerous offices that house high ranking military officials.

You guys realize that AF-1 is a self-serving fighter plane, right? If some plane gets near AF-1 I'm sure they would be shot down immediately. Especially in a time like this. The pilot on AF-1 is not some airline pilot.....

I would love to have seen them dual with AF-1 -- they would have been destroyed far before they could have even come close --

No. It doesn't have offensive weapons. Just flares and chaff used as contermeasures against incoming missles.

That's a nice gesture. It's sad, though. If we had the economic climate we had last year or two years ago, those figures would be at least $20 and $8 million, respectively.

Alright, snow is starting to piss me off too. He reminds of Good-Will-Hunting: he's a smart little (teen-aged probably) brat who has no real-world experience with anything. All book-smarts and no street-smarts.

How do you like dem apples?

Not to mention the fact that it's still a large plane, not a small & infinitely more maneuverable fighter jet.

You got me. I haven't travelled and lived all over the world and I'm just a teenager. Ever think of appearing on that show 'Profiler'? I would practice a little on that before I apply if I were you
