speeds go up? they won't get too high with DVDs methinks.. not unless 20 megs/second for a 16x burner is going to be available in good quantities soon. even then, I don't think 16x DVD-RWs will ever happen.. perhaps something up to 10x, but I don't see 16x

Congratulations...I am going to wait as well but for the price to continue to fall..it has already fallen damn near in half in a short period of time...for datta cd-rw is fine for now...I have seen some dvd-r for home theater setups that will work great in taping my favorite shows or games...

yeah I'd have to agree, dual layer DVD-RW and DVD+RW I don't think will be a reality for some time. you gotta think about focusing the laser, so it won't burn one layer that isn't supposed to be burned..

4 gigs is nice to have, isn't it? hehe..

Did everyone miss the MP5120A DVD+RW review on the top of every page?

Other than the difference between DVD-RW and DVD+RW, the Ricoh clearly smokes the Pioneer in numerical terms. Granted, I have yet to see a price on the Ricoh.

actually no, I did not miss that review.

problem is, it's a DVD+RW, this is DVD-RW.

so in numerical terms, this drive dominates it's category! hehe..

really though, no website has YET to bother telling us what the real technical differences are between the two standards. all I know for sure is that DVD+RW seems to have a fair amount of computer drive manufacturers behind it (like Ricoh who no longer sells to North America)..

both technologies seem to be equal in terms of capabilities.. compatability wise it looks like the DVD-RW standard appears to be able to be read properly by other DVD standards better, if that link has any truth to it (so far it hasn't failed me for info).

the only difference is, that Pioneer drive is almost a year old, the Ricoh drive was just released.
