Question: In your guys opinion, will the traditional control panel used since W95, still exist as W10 matures over time. I am finding the black and white metro side of W10 settings very hard to navigate, and missing advanced features, whereas the good old control panel has the missing features. There is a bit of overlap in having two places for settings. I have solved this with god mode.

I am keeping fingers crossed control panel stays.........

Your thoughts?

I am using the preview version. The features in the "All Settings" are evolving with each build. Control panel may disappear in time

In Display Settings or Personalization (I forget which) you can still select which Desktop Icons to display just like pre-10 OS, one of which offered is Control Panel. I always put it on my desktop.

Probably not, but hopefully someone at some point writes a GUI interface that can be overlaid on top of Windows 10 to feel more like classic windows. I can't stand the win10 interface, it's better than 8 but worse than XP or 7. I always feel that stuff is missing, and everything is so big and blocky and too white. Just glad I'm not stuck using it on a daily bassis. I use Linux at home and we just upgraded to 7 at work. At least in 7 there is classic mode. One of the first things I set in any windows install since XP.

There is classic shell but don't think it touches the overall UI much only certain things like start menu.

Winstep (2 versions, neither is free) or WindowBlinds ( still paid but a cheaper alternative)

I'm using "Classic Shell." I can flip back and forth to the disgusting "Metro" confusion when I want.

Someone could say that use of such programs is "training wheels." Whether or not that's true, I began to like Windows 10 more when I was sure of navigating through it as if it were Windows 7.

I have no doubt that one day the Control Panel will go away. But MS knows people aren't ready for it. That's why they put the mostly-used things in Settings, but kept the Control Panel for now. Most-likely, MS will keep adding things to settings and at some build down the road, control panel will be gone. But even then, I wouldn't be surprised if there will be a built in "trick" to get it back.

Well, whatever you call it -- "Settings," "Control Panel" -- users need access. Different users accommodate to different levels of access. Mainstreamers as I imagine them don't like fiddling with "Control Panel" or "Administrative Tools." Those would be the folks in an office who require an IT professional when they have trouble, or people who run to Geek Squad at the first hint of a problem. Since I'm looking at this from my own perspective -- it has a bias.

Why the hell didn't they just offer two front ends for the control panel; the classic desktop one and a new mobile friendly one? The same applies to the rest of the UI for that matter. Why does it have to be one or the other, and this clumsy, protracted transition period where half the settings are here and the rest are over there. The takeaway after Windows 8 should have been that forcing a mobile oriented UI on an OS that is only used in the minority of mobile devices is a bad idea. Did they learn from that? No. They reintroduce the start menu as a half-hearted token gesture (making even that mobile-centric), and then double down on the same stupid crap that's alienating desktop users.
I believe that MS say how many people were running those 3rd party start menu apps and decided to implement a half baked answer to them. I really wish that they're give uses a choice as you suggest and I want my w7 start menu back. Perhaps they could just purchase classic shell and let the boys there do it for them.
