To start, my computer will just randomly restart. It seems to happen most often when I am on the internet, which is almost always, but it has done it at other times. This time I was just playing one of those little Christmas games, not Elf-Bowling, and it locked. Here is what it says. I know I can look up the errors, but I don't speak computer and I was wondering if someone could translate.

*** STOP: 0x0000001E (0xC0000005, 0x0B2DEF71, 0x00000000. 0x0B2DEF71)
KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

Beginning dump of physical memory
Physical memory dump complete. Contact your system administrator or technical support group.

Then it just stopped at the blue screen. Thanks for any help or suggestions.

something similar used to happen contantly to me in mandrake and in windows 98.. i got rid of mandrake long before i fixed it though, so all i know is this worked in windows. i have a 380 mhz processor thats suposed to run at 95 mhz bus. i downclocked to 350 so it would run at 100 mhz bus and its MUCH more stable now..no more arbitrarily rebooting or closing ie.

good luck

Win2k and other NT based OS automatically restart as soon as they experience internal errors. The first thing you should do is to make sure you have all the latest drivers for your hardware. Second, make sure those drivers are for Win2k, and not less than NT 4. I cannot crash Win2k via software more than a dozen times, and most of which happen to be direct results from running Baldur's Gate II at high resolution. According to what your post, I'd say you should direct your troubleshoot at the modem and the NIC because the system crashes most often when you are on the Internet.

Go to System Properties/Advanced/Startup and Recovery/ and disable "System Failure - Automatically Reboot" if you there is a driver problem and you have no choice but wait for a new release. That way you can safely use the system without experiencing the unpredictable system reboots for the time being.

Thanks for the suggestions. I don't have a modem and I have tried two different NICs. I think it is the video card. I have a SoundBlaster Live with the latest drivers, and a TNT2 Viper 770 Non-Ultra video card. The video card loads the Windows Drivers. I just did a clean install. Completly started over and I didn't have anything loaded. I played the little snow game and it crashed again. I have 256MB of RAM. I just think it has to be the video card. I haven't really liked this video card anyway. I want to go back to a VooDoo. Thanks for your help.

Give us your system spec and we can help you out more effectively (right folks?).

Well, without knowing your system spec. I would recommend using the the latest BIOS for your motherboard, and the latest win2k drivers for all your hardware devices (go to hardware mfg.'s websites for the latest drivers). Also, if you're overclocking, set it at the default speed to see it's any more stable than before.

Once more thing, check to see all your programs are win2k-compatible.

Here is my system.

AOpen AX6BC Pro Gold Motherboard. I just updated the BIOS about a month ago.
Celeron 300A@450. I have had this processor for about a year and a half, always overclocked.
1 - 128MB PC100 and 2 - 64MB PC133. Good stuff, but not GREAT stuff.
SoundBlaster Live X-Gamer. Drivers as of today.
Diamond Viper 770 Non-Ultra, drivers from Windows Update
Intel 10/100 Pro NIC
Promise Ultra66 I only installed this today. I haven't been using my ATA66.
Quantum Fireball KA Plus 13.6GB Master, Fireball LM Plus 20.4GB Slave
Pioneer 104 DVD
Internal Atapi Zip
Floppy

Dual boot - Win98SE and W2K Pro. Fresh install on both as of last night.

It might be the overclocking and I do plan to replace the 300A with a 550E that I have, I just want a nice slocket, not generic. I will not be overclocking the 550E. Thanks again.

Whenever I had KMODE failures it was my RAM.... if I set it to 2-2-2 I would get that.... I turned it down to 2-3-2 and it works fine. Try taking out the PC100 RAM and see if it still does it.
