w2k minimum hardware

I am wanting to do a complete upgrade of some systems at my office. I want to upgrade the Windows NT Workstation computers to WIndows 2000 Professional. Most meet the minimum hardware requirements...barely. The ones I am worried about are the Pentium 200, 64MB, & 2.2 GB HDD computers. With these run w2k or will it be unbearably sluggish? I suppose I could just run NT on these machines until we phase them out.

Any suggestions or insights?

i think you will hate win2k on those machines you mentioned. i would just stay with NT. 64mb of ram is just not a good idea on any operating system in my opinion. i think theyll just run too slow for you and youll just kick yourself in the butt for upgrading them. just my opinion from experience.

I disagree and agree with Fobside

While 64mb isn't ideal, it is probably the MAXIMUM support ram of the Pentium 200 anyways

I have a K6(2) 266 Laptop with only 64mb of ram, yet I'm running Window2000 Advance Server without
Hardrive trashing at all. Sure 128mb would be ideal, but for Web Browsing/ Word Processing I don't find the need of more memory.

I say just install it on a seperate HD and try it out, it may or maynot work for you.

In my W2K experience, I have found 64mb sufficient.
Also make sure that the DMA is turn on which MS turn it off by default

What worry me more is XP on 64mb ----NOW that is really Insane, don't do it!

64 mb is not enough for 2k Advanced Server. Sure it will work, but you might as well be doing the calculations by hand.
128mb is what I would consider the "bare minimum"
256 is where things start to get tolerable.

It really comes down to how much punishment you want to endure.

yeah, id agree with this which was really more my point. you can do it, but do you want to endure it? if the systems work with NT, i say stick with NT.
