Win2k peer to peer networking won't work and it ain't hardware.
This has got to be a problem with my settings within W2k. Cause peer to peer networking works just fine between my Tbird system and my laptop when I boot the Tbird in Win98se. (The laptop is running that as well.)
Also, my LinkSys router/ switch shows both computers attached and responding normally by its status lights, even when I'm booted in Win2k Also, both computers show up in the router's/switches DHCP table. Even after I release and renew a few times. And when I renamed the Tbird computer on the W2k side only as a test, that new name shows up in the DHCP table on the router.
And finally, I get internet access just fine when booted up in Win2k.
So it's got to be some setting in W2, that I'm not doing right, which keeps me from seeing the Laptop in the "Computers Near Me" folder. Instead only the Tbird shows up there.
The workgroup name is precisely the same on both computers and in both operating systems on the Tbird.
I've got IPX/SPX loaded as the transport protocol for file and printer sharing on both computers.
Both Client for MS Windows and File and Printer sharing for MS Networks is loaded in the Network configuration box in Control Panel for both computers.
Yet I can see the laptop and its directory structure when booted in W98se on the Tbird, but NOT when the Tbird is booted in W2k.
I'm signed on as administrator. Is there someplace else I need to go to, to turn on peer to peer file/printer sharing?
Help!!!!!!
