There's no officially supported (by Microsoft) upgrade path for W2K Pro being installed over Win ME. I know I've seen references to methods for working around this, and you may be able to locate them by searching this forum's message base. I wouldn't know how valid those methods are because I would rather sandpaper my eyeballs than install W2K over WinME. Why would you do this? It won't use the previous registry by importing the settings. You'll still have to re-install all your software, and you'll have a terrible mess of crapola on the hard drive. If you're just looking to keep from having to back up data, don't go there. Your data should be backed up anyway -- at least if it's important to you. Even if you weren't planning on making a major system change. Honestly. My $.02.
jaywallen,
I was kinda thinking the same thing. it's been about a year since the last format. i might as well do it now and get it over with. i have all my important stuff backed up anyway.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure you'll be MUCH happier this way. I haven't done an install-over since DOS 4 to DOS 5. And even that was a disaster. OS disasters these days, though, take a lot more time to fix!
