From what I've seen, it's a go.

And without telling you what I do for a living, I can assure you that I'm one who would see the problems first.

Only issue I'm aware of is a STOP 0x1E in mup.sys when you've got Novell client software installed, and I've only heard 2 reports of that.

I have a couple of systems that I deployed with SP4 on them, no problems thusfar. Unless this is a production server or high availablility/prority workstation I say go with it.

Everyone is being cautious right now since it just came out, but in the reality it's working for the vast majority of people. The only systems I would be concerned with not deploying it to is those mission critical boxes (servers), but than again on those I dont deploy anything that I'm even a little unsure about.

I installed it as well. I noticed that during boot, where everything initializes (win2k screen + progress bar) the screen now flickers. I'm guessing that's some new video check? Also I think the boot time slightly increased with SP4.

Everything else seems to be in order.

Thanks guys. While I do help administer some mission-critical boxes at work, I'm not the one who makes the decisions on the software..I don't get paid enough for that crap!~

This is for my boxes at home. No Novell networking protocols in use, nothing out of the ordinary at all.

I'll give it a shot. After I backup.

Thank you.

well with any SP install you have an option to backup files in case something goes wrong and you can simply uninstall SP4.

Anyone else experiencing slow Java applet loading when visiting a site for the 1st time?

I guess I can give you an example by going to http://www.provinggrounds.com There's a menu bar on top of the page which should load automatically. After installing SP4 it took a verrrrry long time for that to actually load up, but ever since then it's been working just fine.

How does MSFT expect you to deploys these sp's if they're not msi files? Am I missing something....? And no I don't want to have to use SMS server.

SP4, fixed severall long running issues with my install for one my rightclick "open with PSP" (created with X-setup) that never worked before, now does. also GTA3 Vice City no longer has menu corruption. those R the only ones I notice, the bad thing was that I had to remove once again an IE shortcut on my desktop, and had to remove automatic updates service and background intelligent transfer.

Anybody running SP4 on an Intel 440BX-based machine? If so, any problems with shutdowns? i.e. long delays of 2-3 minutes?

I have two newer machines running SP4 without any problems (shutdowns are actually FASTER than SP3).

I haven't attempted to upgrade my Thinkpad T21 (PIII-800) yet because SP4 includes hotfix 329170 which caused shutdown delays of 2 minutes on this machine which I did not care for...

Problems here after I installed....lost my internet connections. Its like the DNS service just stops after I install it. I turned off my firewall software and antivirus software install and kept them turned off after reboot to no avail. Uninstalled SP4 and it runs fine again.

Not a BX machine but tried it on an LX based machine and no problems with it.

Have had SP4 slipstream on my box since for a couple of days, and its running fine. Then again, I never had any problems before the service pack.

Sounds good; I'll probably go ahead and update anyway...I can always revert back or use a disk clone if I run into problems, thanks...

No the build number for Windows 2000 always will say 2195, the stuff after it will change however (ie 5.0.2195.xxxx)
