Have tried 266.77 266.58.

My issue is identical to the one described here

http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=193541

Unfortunately I did a disk cleanup after the install and cannot uninstall SP1 now :/ May have to reinstall windows from scratch, which will be awful.

Sorry to hear that, hope you don't have to reinstall Windows again. Looks like it might be something to do with the latest drivers and 3d vision drivers. The OP in that thread had sli also, maybe that has something to with it. Good luck!

Why not just deselect installing the 3D Vision drivers and install the core nvidia drivers + physX? Maybe that will get you up and running.

Well it is interesting. I've isolated it to only DX9, DX10 or DX11 games work fine, but any DX9 game causes the crash.

Interesting. I'm going to see if I can download a DirectX 9 distributable and install that.

The version I got off of technet had a corrupt x86 installer. I tried 3 or 4 times and could never get it to work.

That is the one I got and made the DVD from. Seven perfect installs - no problems. The nice thing about that DVD is it has all versions of Win 7 and x86 and 64 bit. It automatically does the right thing.

This is the ISO filename:

mu_windows_7 and_windows_server_2008_r2_sp1_x86_x64_dvd_619642.iso

It is covered by this KB: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976932

Win7 SP1 is here:

For those looking to make SP1 permanent - and free up between 500MB and 1.5GB of disc space, run the following from an elevated command prompt.

dism /online /cleanup-image /spsuperseded

Cheers!

Does this matter if you don't use system restore?

You can also do that with Disc Cleanup.

Well I figured it out. It's related to MSI Afterburner and only affects DX9 games. Removing Afterburner fixes the problem, if anyone else runs into this.

Edit: I installed the latest beta of afterburner http://downloads.guru3d.com/Afterburner-2.1.0-Beta-7-download-2604.html

The issue is not present using this beta!

That's good to know, at least you didn't have to install Windows again. I have MSI afterburner also so I'll keep an eye out on that if problems crop up. Thanks

how does a repair disk factor in with the sp1

1-does not matter from the native dvd win 7 hp-64
2-do a new repair disk after sp1and do not use dvd for repair
3-run a copy of win 7 slipstreamed with sp1 ,should a repair be needed.

Nope, retried about an hour or so after getting the error and was able to complete the download.

I should add that once the download completed it installed successfully on all 3 PCs. 1 laptop with Home Premium, 1 laptop with Professional and 1 desktop with Ultimate.

The first one is a dvd image. The next four are for languages other then English i.e. fre(french). The last two are for English and the first is for a 64bit system the other a 32bit system.

They are not languages. Go to Instructions for the file descriptions.

I have successfully installed SP1 on my HTPC and Laptop, which are running Win7 Pro 64bit. I took Acronis drive images before doing so though.

Now for the PC with the most software on it to potentially mess up. Took an image and am backing up all my files before the upgrade. You can never be too careful. The final machine is my gaming/desktop PC with Win7 Ultimate on it (specs in signature below). I did install all the regular patches from Windows update before installing SP1 also. No issues so far.
