W7 splits SSD in 3 partitions in setup

So I was setting up my computer after putting together a Haswell machine.

The SSD Os disk previously had previously been split into 2 partitions, Os plus one tiny system reverse.

I deleted the 2 volumes and created a new one, now it created 3 partitions called: system, MSR (reserved), primary.

Is this normal ?

What you're describing is that the new mobo is UEFI, so Windows 7 was installed in UEFI mode which creates the three GPT partitions instead of the two MBR partitions that are created when Windows is installed in AHCI mode. So, yes, that is normal.

Yes, you actually don't need to manually create any partitions, and especially with an SSD. You'll end up with sector misalignment that causes poor SSD performance.

It's best to delete any existing partitions, and then when you click Next to begin the Windows installation, the Windows installer will automatically align, partition, and format the drive before it begins copying files.

Not if using windows 7 or windows 8. They align the sectors properly.
