Well, I have a friend woh is (or was) running W2k. He called me over to enlist my help for a strange problem he has. One morning when he booted up his computer, it POSTed and then stopped at a cursor. It does not show any OS startup at all. I figured the problem may have been that his boot record got screwed somehow, so I went to the repair console and tried running fixboot and fixmbr, and neither did anything. As he does not have an emergency recovery disk, I figured the only option is reinstalling. So I tried that and it said the C: partition is an invalid format, even though it's listed as FAT32. So in order to reinstall, we have to repartition. The main thing he doesn't want to lose are his old emails and his Address List. Can anyone tell me either another way to fix it, or where the files are located that store your emails and address list?
Since this problem deals with both OS and software I wasn't sure where to post it, but I assume people read both forums so here should be ok.
Thanks,
-Chupa
