plenty....

My dad has a love for the big wagons too. buick roadmasters. he had 3 or 4 of them, and put over 200k on all but the one that got Tboned and totaled.

first was blue, then a couple white and one tan, all with the woodgrain sticker. what a road trip car, with the LT1 V8. The 80s Buick had a 307 in it, we rebuilt it at around 250k, and it was a full roller valve train, something in the 80s, you would only find in a race car engine. I think he ended up with almost 300k on that car when he got the white 94 road master.

my step mom liked them too, and she had a century wagon white with woodgrain at the same time my dad had a matching roadmaster. that must have been... the early 00s or very late 90s.

A dark green 1970 Catalina wagon...with the optional AC and a second speaker, in the back. The Pontiac grill/headlight assembly looked boss.

Among other wagons, my folks had a 1957 Buick Special Hardtop Estate Wagon, which was virtually indistinguishable from the Caballero . . . basically just down one fake porthole and a less powerful V-8. These wagons have a fair amount of collector cred, believe it or not! As a kid, I thought it was gorgeous (for the time.)

4 door hardtop (pillarless) wagons were a brief thing. Sty-lee!

Hey, we lived in the 'burbs. Station wagons were mandatory. I think there was a local ordinance.

My wife knows I want a Volvo V90. Now, whether I'm willing to sell our WRX to get one is another issue

Some wagons (estate cars if you're across the pond) I'm a fan of... others not so much.

My wagon is not happy. Less than a year old and we find out today if the insurance company totals it. We're hopeful that it's repairable but the collision place estimator looked doubtful. Oddly enough, all the lights and the backup camera work.

bummer. the hell happened?
I got rear ended by a Grand Cherokee while waiting at a light. No injuries. The tailgate took the brunt of the force which is what gives us some hope. The car is all wheel drive so we're nervous that if the body is torqued, the car is done. The other driver is covered by Mommy Fortuna's Midnight Insurance Company which is a pain in the ass so we went through our insurance and let the company lawyers deal with the bastards.

Did you like the car?

I like the car, my wife loves the car. I find the seats a bit tight but they fit her perfectly. The turbo is ridiculous when I want to pass someone. The ride is very quiet which makes for pleasant long distance driving. The car has flat fold seats and the deck is long enough to sleep in which was a basic requirement when we were car shopping. If the insurance company totals the car, we’ll get another one.

GM selling Opel was, I thought, extremely short-sighted on their part . . . as was Ford selling Volvo. Both firms, at different times, needed the cash infusion, but . . .

Estimate is $6800 so looks like it ain’t totalled unless they find more problems when they dig in. Collision/Comprehensive is a good thing.

this thing is hot af:

my concern biggest concern with it is the belt driven supercharger and the exhaust driven supercharger are two superchargers too many when it comes to legendary volvo reliability.

If the US got the c43 wagon or the m340i wagon I would be getting one of those in April instead of another SUV. I test drove the V90 wagon pictured above. I liked it but I'm still gravitating towards vehicles that are a bit more fun. Once that goes away I'll look at the E450 wagon and V90 wagon again in a few years.

I thought mechanically driven forced induction was a supercharger, and gas driven was a turbocharger?

They're turbo and supercharged like you think. Assuming you get the T6 model. They're system is only giving them 1mpg to 2mpg at best over a traditional 4 banger turbo with the same output. They'll probably stick with this setup until they go full electric.

both are superchargers. a turbine driven supercharger is, fully, a "turbosupercharger," which is a type of supercharger and clunky nomenclature all in one!

I'm not sure why you're using the word that way instead of the industry standard common use. You literally had to add extra words to your original statement about the superchargers to clarify the difference instead of simply saying turbocharger.

I'm confused. I could see an electric blower for boost at low rpms giving way to the turbo at higher rpms but a belt driven blower would be rpm-dependent like the turbo. I guest low rpms are still pretty high when driving a fan.
