Wow.....I just logged on and it tried to force me to be a fan of like 50 different pages. When I unselected it, I was told that it would erase my education & work info if I didn't select fan pages for the school & organization I worked at. Seriously guys?

I don't think it's fans just so much as doing it differently. before your information was linked, like you could click on school or major and get a search hit for everyone else who listed the same exact thing. this just looks like a slightly more organized way of doing it because people type things different?

if you go into edit it and uncheck everything it tells you itll make everything blank

true but it is annoying change you cant just put random things in your information. in music for example i used to just link my last.fm profile as it was easier then listing out the shit i listen to. cant do that anymore

I just tried to edit my info and I did get the popup you described in the OP. When I replied last night I wasn't logged in, they must've just added this recently. Kinda annoying but I think gwai lo's explanation is the reason, makes sense.

Delete all of your likes, interests, and information. Delete all programs. Then put a simple bio in your bio box. Make the bio box viewable by everyone in the privacy settings so people can ID you. Problem solved. FB gets nothing.

when i redid my settings i was able to put the link back again, you might have to hit "enter" after pasting the link in the box.

If you edit your profile, you will get the popup. If you choose not to link to any and then hit save, all your interests/favorite TV shows/movies/books/etc will be removed from your profile. The best you can do is just back out. Ridiculous.

I've gotten that prompt a few times now. I just reload facebook's homepage and it doesnt bother me for another day or 2
