This never ceases to blow my mind. For something made to be a media wonder it is downright embarrassing.

I couldn't agree more. It seems like it would be so incredibly simple to implement with the tech available.

I said it in the other posts that brought up the topic as well: Yes, it makes no sense why they don't add MMS, but in the same regard I think most iPhone users just e-mail the pictures. Everyone I know uses e-mail on their phones, not MMS, so for many of us, its a non-issue.

Should they add it? Absolutely.
Does it make me think less of the iPhone? No, not at all. I would never use, nor will I ever use MMS.

what is seriously annoying is when people send you texts that have pictures in them...you don't get anything...at least that has been my experience so far.

You mean never use the iphone or never use mms?

IIRC he has an iphone so I'm thinking the latter

MMS. I think I got my first personal cell phone back in 1998 (though we had 2 family cell phones back around 1995 or so). I have never sent an MMS nor ever had anyone try to send me an MMS on any of the 10 or so phones i've owned. We all just use e-mail now.

That may be true...but I know a lot of people who use this feature fairly regularly...so it is irritating for me when I don't even receive anything.

I fall in line with aphex here, but it could also be because I've used Windows Mobile devices without MMS for about 6 years, before the iPhone. I've never sent an MMS in my life and haven't found the need. I've also only gotten about 5 MMS's ever as well.

Not that it shouldn't be in. I understand it's an important feature and if people can find a way to use MMS on WinMo devices, such as they've done, Apple should be able to have users view MMS messages on their phones, at least pictures. I suspect part of the reason why MMS is not supported is because the iphone doesn't support .3gp and is afraid people will complain more if video does not work. Honestly though, how hard could it be to incorporate a 3gp decoder in to the OS though? I'm also looking for my Windows Media decoder as well so that when I get emails with WMV files, I'll be able to watch those too someday.

If you're still holding your breath for that stuff, you may as well hold it for a video capture application from Apple as well.

The only ones I know who use Email on their phones are iPhone, Crackberry, and Treo users. The majority of people I know have plain-jane phones like Razrs. No MMS blows

I don't understand why they can;t offer a workaround like sprint does with their smartphones.
MMS message is received by the carrier, and made available through an online service (picturemail in this case).
Carrier sends the recipient a normal text message containing a direct link to the picture on said service.
User can reply through the web browser with media saved on the device.

A double awesome setup that allows you to view all your picturemail from anywhere (I understand email works the same way, but in this case you can utilize your mobile phone number and not flood your inbox with messages).
I personally use this quite a bit, anytime i see something silly or work with new/interesting instruments in my lab I normally sang a picture or video with my smartphone and share with my friends.

That's exactly how it works on the iPhone. You get a link that opens Safari and you can view the picture that way. I'm not sure why PricklyPete is not even seeing that.

This sounds lame even thinking it over in my head, but it's almost embarrassing when my friends ask me if I can get pictures on my iPhone. Sigh... "No, it is an amazing piece of technology - that doesn't do MMS"

"Can you just email it?" usually goes over about as well as a lead balloon.

I have a Verizon VX9800, I have never used the MMS features in it. The iPhone is more a mobile computer than a phone, therefore it makes more sense to use email and the internet to send things. Plus email is free, MMS you have to pay.

Yea.. but you get a freaking 20+ character password that you have to use to view it once you click on the link.. SUPER annoying!

I definitely have never gotten something like this. I'll have to test it out some more...but several people have said they have sent me messages and I have gotten nothing.

The double whammy is that email is free, MMS gets charged out the wazoo. As an iPhone user it just doesn't make any sense to MMS someone when it can be emailed just as easily, and for free.

A friend of mine at work has an iPhone and she got absolutely nothing when I tried to send her a MMS.

But most plans include free txt, MMS, etc but charge for data so email isn't free.

The iPhone plans tend to be the inverse of that; data (which you need anyhow) is flat rate, then you pay extra for your SMSs (which are just data billed at >$1/KB).

I understand that, but that's not the case for 99% of cell phone users out there. That'll probably change in the future but it's pretty retarded, although not unexpected, for Apple to cripple the iPhone like that.

I'm in the MMS is a waste of money and a busted interface camp. Busted in the sense that there's nothing I love more than getting someone's barftastic cameraphone shot thrust upon me at $.20 a pop. I've thankfully cultivated a group of friends who have never wasted my time and money with their cameraphonetography.

I agree typing the asinine 128 character item code and password to retrieve a sent mms is worse than scooping your flesh out with the sample spoons at the ice cream parlor. And equally awesome is wanting to do the same to your eyeballs after viewing their masterpiece-o-shit.

This is the thing with apple, call it what you will, they put so much work into making emailing photos simple that its an affront on their user interface sensibilities for you to cock it up with your redundant added cost mms bs. And that is the kool-aid, good the last drop.

thats it right there.

I'd say 6/10 don't have internet. 8/10 have unlimited txt and mms.

before i got internet on my phone in order to avoid data charges i just emailed with MMS.
