2013/2015. The announcement was made in 2010 which coincided with the last work the standards group.

Of course it is. All modern, dense chips are power limited. You saying it's not doesn't make it so.

"Infinite power" or "effectively"? If you picked the first you might be too literal.

Prices on the reference models are still absurd... can't wait to see where the aftermarket models start off; I wonder if they'll sell out as quickly.

I think I prefer the cleaner, simple stock look of these ref VEGA cards this time around. Blower is louder but nowhere near some of the previous designs. AIB 56 might be worth a look though.

So we are using the announcement of end of support for determining when a product is "dead"? Going by that reasoning Windows 10 is "dead".

How redacted long are these going to take. I've been waiting since August for them to release, but only reference was released. We were told early October, then late October, then early November, then late November.

And still not a single non-reference Vega 56. And the RX 580s haven't gone to sane prices either.

Redacted sake, just ramp up supply already.

No profanity in the tech forums.
Twice in one post no less.

By now, potentially forever. Vega was not such a happy launch.

The 580's are the mining of course, and there are very good reasons they can't boost supply to try and squash that demand.

Yah that's the way it works. No more updates is dead. Then the company implementing the technology gave dates that are 3 or 5 years out for full phase out. That isn't coincidence. 3 and 5 years are standard product development timelines. The only people complaining are the ones that weren't paying attention. Who though they were getting a great deal, but what was just obsolete tech. Also, comparing software EOL to hardware EOL is not similar enough.

Powercolor Red Devil VEGA 64

The Red Devil comes in a triple-slot, triple-fan, and triple-BIOS fashion. According to OCUK’s preliminary specs, the RX Vega Red Devil will be the fastest custom Vega card so far. Well at least technically, because the only tested custom Vegas were both running at reference speeds.

The boost clock of 1607 MHz actually puts it under Liquid Edition from AMD (1677 MHz). But it’s hard to say if this clock speed is achievable for the Red Devil, as Vega is really picky when it comes to stable frequencies.

I'd keep an eye on that one if it wasn't triple slot design... yuck.

I think the NITRO card by Sapphire has 3x 8-pin connectors... none of these AIB models are grabbing my attention though, especially with reference VEGA being a super clean and much more compact design.

Since the red devil is factory OC... it wouldn't surprise me if this version needed ridiculous juice to run at load also.

Looked up both and it's the Sapphire one with 3x 8-pin. The Red Devil, I wasn't able to see it very well at all. But, these already draw ridiculous amounts of power. This is kinda the last thing we need. I'm looking to get a Vega card soon, myself.

Pff.. speak for yourself. I want a Vega card so power hungry it runs on crude oil and the souls of the damned.

More seriously though, it may be for other reasons. I've seen some people report that they experience less coil whine on a GPU when running with a power cable set up that doesn't force as much juice through any single cable. I don't know how true that is or how much of a difference it makes, but if Sapphire was running into those kinds of problems and wanted a quiet card they might go down that road.

I think my ref Sapphire Vega has a tiny bit or coil whine but the fan, at around 50% and higher, masks it out completely. Card works fine though and the drivers continue to improve so I'll just hang on to it for a bit. It's in the HAF 932 which is not the most sound dampening case ever but compared to a few previous AMD cards the Vega plenty quiet. It does reach around 75c at full load though... slightly higher than what I'd prefer. Oh well...

I ordered a liquid cooled 64 just to see how it compares, if I don't like it I'll send it back. I am not impressed with initial reviews of the AIB cards to be honest.

^let us know if you do like it... I plan on grabbing another 64 at some point, silver air version, but I can't help but ogle over the clean brushed look of the liquid RX Vega.

Will do. If there's no coil whine I'm sending the RX VEGA 64 LE back.

I've only installed it and ran Unigine Valley benchmark on it before dinner. I can feel a bit less heat subjectively being expelled out the back of the case, but I could live with that before (my case is by my feet under a desk). Noise-wise I thought it was whining a bit when I fired it up, as the benchmark started it got louder with RPM I think. Now it seems to be quieter after I ran it and then came back into the room. I did see about a 7% increase from air to liquid on that one test. It seems my scores are low? 3437 to 3678... anyway I'll play for a few hours tonight and evaluate further from the set of my pants. It's definitely quieter though, my main gripe.

Can't Unsee ....thanks Reddit!

Every time I see news on the AIB cards I keep thinking how long ago we knew about the ASUS Strix board and how conspicuously absent it's been ever since. You wonder what sort of politics are at play between AMD and the partners right now, it can't be pretty. I reckon we'll get the barest pathetic dribble of AIB Vegas before the year is up so they've technically launched but it will be to little fanfare. Have to pin our hopes on the 12nm refresh now.

For anyone considering the reference design and being worried about the blower, having had it about a month I'm quite pleased with it overall. The stock configuration does the cooler no favors whatsoever even on the 'power save' option. Now when you get to undervolting the core and pumping up the HBM that's when it starts to shine. I'm running at 1020mv on the core and 950mhz on the HBM (V56, stock bios) with a +50% power limit. Testing with Time Spy I'm looking at a full 70W of power savings versus the default config while having higher framerates and lower noise. I even dropped the fan down to 2300rpm to tame the noise a bit and I'm running at a stable ~1500mhz core in Witcher 3. With headphones it's inaudible except in the quietest of scenes and even then it's about comparable to my old 290 Tri-X. The noise does admittedly have that turbine whoosh about it but it's far from unbearable.

I'm sure I could get more out of the card performance wise, but you have to ask if 5fps more is worth 500rpm on the fan, and it does get way worse the further you get from 2400rpm. Still as someone who only reluctantly bought the stock blower I've found it most reasonable and a very substantial upgrade from the 290.

yes, I've been trying to sell the reference cooler design to others also... even though the 290 is an extreme example of loud blower design the reference Vega designs are plenty reasonable. it's certainly not as good a design as the NVIDIA reference cooler in terms of noise but quite an improvement.

out of all the AIB designs so far the only one I'd consider is the Sapphire NITRO; I don't plan to do so however
