WTF... ~16% on your bill is cheap... did you flunk your elementary school math or are you one of those waiters with a false sense of entitlement....

I'm not sure if he out of elementary school yet...

You're not sure if he out of elementary school huh?

So how much to retain your clearly awesome skills?

Depends on the nature of the work.

So how much do your jon's pay you for a bj?

nice mature reply. sheesh.

I have a funny feeling that you tip you say you left, wasn't the actual amount of the tip. A waitress would not make a scene over a gratuity of over 15%, which is the norm by the way. Also, the cut lip on the chipped glass thing sounds rather bogus.

Agreed. When he said "My tab comes out to $46 or so and i leave a $7 tip", somehow I came under the impression that the OP spent a minute or two with a calculator, trying to make up numbers. And, I've never seen or heard of someone who cut their lip on a chipped glass.
Of course, his post count seems to give him some forum credibility; but I still doubt the story is as he told it.

One other thing, OP, could you make a decision on which tense you're going to use while telling a story? "I throw a business card in her direction and tell her to take it up with the law firm I was for and advise her to go back inside and make earn her $7.50/hr." Are you an errand boy for the law firm? Did you type that after too many drinks at the bar? I *shudder* agree with dmcowen.. "corporate thug" fits.

Yeah, I question the lawyer bit now. What kind of lawyer would have see their friend cut his lip on a bar glass and not try to sue for big $$$?

A chipped bar glass is not much sharper then a piece of hard candy. You would need to drag your lip over the chip back and forth with force to draw any blood. I find this part of the story shens.

Still waiting for the "well, I exaggerated that part" which will be followed by "well, I exaggerated the amount of the tip too" followed by "I exaggerated the reaction of the waitress."

What this math you speak of? Teach me of this at once!

When did I say the watress was'nt being pushy or a crackhead, or annoying et-cetera? Oh ya I did'nt not say any of that.

Just because you're a cheap bastard don't get all mad at me, go argue with the waitstaff at whatever restaurant you frequent if you're looking for a pointless argument.

Hey genius.... When did I say that you said that the waitress was being a crackhead and pushy... OH YA I DIDN"T SAY ANY OF THAT......

And, if I am cheap for giving 15% tips, so be it....

Well...the upside on bar tips is, I imagine, very high.

She may be used to people being plowed out of their minds at 2am and leaving 200% tips without knowing it...

It's incredibly unlikely to cut your lip on a chipped glass.

really i did. OK OK the dinner was free (got a gift card for the main course, drinks and appetizer were not covered). bill came to $5.10 and i paid with a $10 and had her keep the change

you should always tip on the total bill before coupons of "free" stuff.

I think you tipped fine.

However, your comment about throwing the law firm where you work at's card at her, expecting that to actually MEAN something, is laughable. As if the whole "I'm a secretary at a law firm" thing is intimidating or in some way makes you a badass...

yeah but as i said up a few post it really wouldn't have mattered. each meal was around $6 then you have one beer at $2.00 (or $2.50 think they raised it last week) and one lemonade (not sure on the price).

so it would have been under $20 regardless. not to mention the bill didn't state how much it was.

it amazes me when i go out for dinner at a friends who lives in toward Chicago. where a meal here would cost me under $10 it would be closer to $20 out there.

anyone in or around Sycamore IL hit up Pj's tavern across from the court house. food is good (not great though) the help is hot and the beer is cheap (one of the cheapest in town). only negative is the fact that during the day it is full of lawyers

sheesh i sound like i own the place heh

OP....if I was a partner in your firm and I got wind of your behaviour, I'd certainly reprimand you. It is definitely not your place to invoke the name and reputation of your firm in your petty personal disputes. In fact, I think it would be quite hilarious if she called your firm and complained. I totally agreed with your reaction up until that point.

A $7 tip sounds just fine for a $46 bill to me and it sounds like the waitress was crazy for complaining about it, but... the way I read the OP is that there was a group of people at the table and it was just the OP's part of the total that came to $46. Could the waitress have thought that the $7 tip was all she was getting for the entire table? Did the friends leave tips for their parts of the bill as well? If the bill for the whole group came to say, $200 and the only tip she received was the OP's $7, I could see her asking if the service was alright as he said in the beginning. Following him outside as she did was ridiculous regardless, but it could have all started because of a misunderstanding about the total tip for the table or it could have been because the OP's friends were too cheap to leave a tip of their own.

I think the OP acted fine. This waitress followed him outside. Just think about that for a minute. A waitress chasing someone outside over a 15% tip on bad service? I would be absolutely incredulous. If he didn't stand up in some way against that psychotic bar wench you would have been yelling for him to turn in his man card.
