I am sitting here at work and decided I should buy Transformers DVD. Found it at Wal-Mart.com for 14.27 (or so) + 2.xx for shipping. Then there is this option for "Site to Store" free shipping. Here is the "How does site to store work?"

Look for the Site to StoreSM message on thousands of items, many of which aren't available in Wal-Mart stores.

Select the Site to Store option during checkout.Pay for your order online and let us know who the pickup person will be.

Look for an email when your order is ready to be picked up at your local Wal-Mart store. Order processing and delivery takes about 7 -10 business days.

Go to your local Wal-Mart Site to Store pickup area to get your item. Bring a photo ID and the printout of the Ready at Store email. You will be required to sign for your order when you pick it up. (Assembly not included.).

Are you shitting me? Circuit City has their 24 minute policy and it takes you guys 7 DAYS?

WTF.

EDIT: Also, don't they have one of the largest trucking fleets in the world?

If you're going to do in-store pickup, why don't you just go to the store and buy it? It isn't like they have low inventory on the Transformers DVD.

Anyways, Wal-Mart has an amazing inventory system. For some reason though, their integration with their online store sucks compared to others.

edit: BTW, go get the Special Edition DVD from Target. The extras disc is worth it and the case transforms into Optimus Prime.

I think Walmart has it shipped to the store from somewhere else if they don't have it. This practice is not new. Some retailers like REI do the same thing.

I haven't actually looked but usually on Friday new release DVDs jump up to $19.99 here.

No, he's saying that it's a different system. You are purchasing something on the site that the particular store may or may not have in stock. Because of this, they send one from a warehouse to the store.

CC confirms that they have it in stock, then you have it set aside, and pick it up that way.

Yeah.... his point is that a store the size of Walmart, with their amazing inventory system (it is amazing) ought to be able to do what Circuit City can do.

And while I'm sure they could do that, I'm not so sure that it would be as useful to Walmart as it is to Circuit City. People usually go to Walmart to buy a bunch of stuff, not just one or two items.

difference is ship to store and in store pickup. if theres no charge for shipping for ship to store its because they toss it in with the regular cargo shipments i guess.

Store ads start Sunday and end Saturday, don't they? So I think you should be able to get it today or tomorrow at the reduced price. Unless Walmart is different.
