My mom is a Wal-mart and Save-a-lot fan. I'm not sure if Save-a-lot is just a midwestern thorn in the side or not, but for those who may not be familiar with it, it is a store that is much crappier than Wal-mart (always locates in the crappiest part of town, and has crappy buildings), and sells low quality junk at prices that are slightly less than Wal-mart's.
Personally, I don't go to Wal-mart for anything, except film processing. However, I will only put up with scratched negatives and crappy prints so many times, and at this moment I have some mailers from A&I on the way, so I can get future rolls processed at a real lab.
Heh, I'm not sure why I decided to bore you all with the past two paragraphs, except that I'm tired and not thinking coherently right now. But, I have a more personal issue with Wal-mart, that probably hasn't affected any of you.
Nevertheless, when they come into a town (they did this to both towns within a few minute's driving distance from the rural area where I live), they kill more local businesses than just retail and food stores. In a larger town (e.g. Terre Haute, IN), they won't be able to compete with a large chain like PetCo or PetSmart (the quality of liveware from those places rivals Wal-mart in a bad way - i.e. sick fish, dying terrestrial plants sold as aquatic plants, etc.), but all the small and good stores that employ people who actually know how to net fish without almost killing them end up getting put out of business shortly after a Wal-mart arrives.
Edit: My "personal issue" listed above is in relation to the pet store problem listed below, because aquatic animals and plants is one of my hobbies. And, of course, I realize that my "larger town" would be a tiny rural villiage to many people here, but that's the way I see things, having been forced to live much of my life in rural Indiana.
