What i need to know is where i could find the material i would bolt my computer on to. This would be the motherboard and parts. NOT a tower, that's just stupid. I have no space in my room other than the walls. I have a very sturdy house and know how to tap and place bolts. :whiste:

I finally have a well paying job in my life. I need to replace my 8+ yr old computer. My brother has a water cooled something, overclocked over 9000. I really would like to keep up with him in gaming. :'( Arma, Crysis, bf3, Guerilla, minecraft, dayz.

I would really like to prove to my brother i can out do him in gaming and in pc building. Something he does almost for a living for his friends. I can put the hardware together and install the drivers on my own. I Have about a $3,000 budget on the tower alone. I have no clue what to buy or any motherboard processor combinations. I know it will have a ssd? More than likely be air cooled. Ive been searching through the fourms but havent had much. Im not completely clueless but i dont want to waste my precious money.
Thanks

First post. But i have been lurking

maybe building it into the tv stand would be a better option? Do you really want everything showing? How is your TV set up, is there any room in back for a computer? I think by just putting the parts all out, your making more work for yourself than you think. Not to mention, even though its all out in the open, i think a case still does a better job of pulling and pushing air around your components.

I would just find a case that fits near/under/next to your tv, and make it look really cool. I have a P180 next to my TV now, and an Antec 900 before that, and to be honest both looked perfectly fine. I kinda liked the blue LED's as well, but the P180 is a quieter case.

If you really want to bolt it to the wall, then maybe steal the motherboard tray from your old case, and go from there. I can comment on grounding or a charge building up with a computer all out like that. But it cant be that much worse than this thing:

i guess that could be an option for you too if you wall mount that. Not sure what kind of video card it would hold though.

Well, the basics you will need are:

CPU i5-3570K or i7-3770K (i5 better value for gaming, i7 if going all-out)
Mobo Z77 (pick form factor based on case you want to build in)
RAM 2x4GB or 4x4GB DDR3 (get 1.5V rated memory)
GPU GTX 690 or 2x GTX 680 or 2x HD 7970
SSD Crucial M4, Samsung 830 or an Intel drive - shoot for 120GB or bigger
HDD 1-2TB for storage
BluRay player or burner
Case, keyboard, mouse, speakers of your choice
3 of the catleap 27" monitors - see the thread in the video card forum

And then watch your brother's jaw hit the floor when he sees your setup...

I have room for a small computer like dave posted. My t.v is on a full swivel behind my 5 foot desk. I want all the leg room and desk room. So i got to figure out whats the most space efficient computer.

This is what i wanted. Im going ballz to the wall. I would need those keyboard and mice choices too. I have a razor adder. Everything else should be replaced.

Mechanical keyboard is the best way to go if you need a new one.

I would get one of the Leopolds off of Elitekeyboards.com. I have the Cherry Blue keys and find them great for typing on and fine for gaming. They are loud though(have a tactile click detent). A lot of people prefer the Cherry Black keys for gaming because they don't have a click and feel like a regular button press. The Cherry Red is like a lighter black(easier to press the key). There is also a cherry brown which is basically a blue without the click sound.

The good thing about mechanical keyboards is they almost never wear out. No spongy feeling keys after a few months. You can also learn to type faster on them as you get used to how the keys function since you don't actually have to press the key all the way down to get it to register.

No fancy lights or LCD screens though. You can get custom keycaps with just about any design you want though to make a really unique keyboard layout.

No, i want that feel. Mechanical is the way to go. Any other computer hard ware choices? I am a carpenter and if worse comes to worse. Its going on a wood board strapped to the wall. With a crap ton of fans. So with that in mind. Any other hardware combinations. Im looking at what denithor posted. Opinions? My brother has his on a metal hazard cabinet. I might do something of that nature.

Loving my new p280 for a case recommendation. As well as my G500 mouse and G110 keyboard (same feel as the G19 with less extra buttons and no screen, if you dont care about that)

I havent heard of catleap, but that does sounds pretty ridiculous. Would a 690 be able to power 3 monitors at that res? or would you need to sli 680's? Or even sli 2 690's if thats not enough.

I really like my 120hz monitor, but theyre pretty expensive, and not sure if it would be worth it, or better to get 3 120hz monitors. You would be getting a lower res as well.

I have 2x 27" Catleaps and a EVGA SC GTX 670 and loving it so far.

just reading up on those catleaps right now. WOW is all i have to say. Im thinking of selling my 120hz 1080p asus monitor and upgrading to this.

How hard are they to find? And are they all overclockable to 100hz? I feel like 120hz vs 100hz will be just about indistinguishable, and 100hz is wayyy better than 60hz.

Might order tonight if i find out where and if i can OC. Didnt mean to derail the thread, but those look awesome.

I think the OC/100hz ones are hard to find now. I just went with the 60hz ones from TA_Planet on ebay. Was crazy i ordered on moday and they were at my house by tuesay the next day at noon.

OP maybe post a picture of the space you are trying to do this in and people can give you some other idea's.

anyone selling that specific model, even for more money? I dont know if id want to take the risk or not getting 100hz. And is your version OCable to like 90hz? Or was that just one board that was way better than ones you can get now.

How do you guys think he'll be able to fit three monitors in his room if he can't fit a regular mid tower?

initially i was thinking he was hooking it up to his tv in his living room, not sure why i assumed that. I thought he has maxed out, and just wanted to wall mount the PC to save space.

But if thats the case - if you have enough room for a desk/monitor - you should have enough room for a case (maybe above the desk on the wall?)

but i think having it by itself is probably more work than its worth, and probably will end up taking up more space.

Would it save space to replace your TV? (This makes your computer a DVR as well, with the right software, some of which is free.)
